I’m having serious problems with sex and masturbation, and require help.
I’m currently 19 and I feel I’m at my sexual peak. Supposely this is great, but please let me explain my situation. I hope you can read it thoroughly and provide some honest feedback and support.
Back in my high school years up until age 18 I use to have girlfriends and would have sex with them very frequently. I would also masturbate and watch porngraphy on top of that. However, I have come to realize that the puppy love, and mindless physical pleasures surmount to nothing.
I have been witnessing some serious health decline. Very tired, lower backpain, uncontrollable emotions, easily agitated, angry, explosive behaviour, just a total out of balance in mind, body, and soul. I know I need to do something about my behaviour but it is difficult to change chronic habits.
I do not have a girlfriend anymore, and have been masturbating quite frequently. I believe it is out of habit, but also out of depression and anger. I feel when I’am depressed I masturbate to feel good, it has become almost like a drug, but it is only a temporary relief. I also masturbate when I get really frustrated, angry and I take it out through masturbation and pornagraphy. I mentally realize that this is a serious problem, it is already out of moderation, is resulting in negative consequences, and yet I don’t believe I have come to full realization yet. Someone said that knowledge is virtue.. meaning that if I really knew and understood I could not be affected by it no more.
I feel there is still something deep dark, perhaps I do not love myself, or i’m trying to find love, or something and I’m going through the wrong method of masturbation which is acting like abuse to the self.
I have been searching for a solution to the problem, and have searched far and wide. Western medicine recommends nothing but drugs, my doctor, parents, friends, etc are of no help.
I have recently been trying Michael Winn’s Healing Tao Inner Smile technique, I found that it helped me for a bit, but I feel I have this huge SEXUAL energy that I need to realse, and then my mind plays games and I end up wasting sexual energy through masutrbation or contionious thoughts of lust and sex.
It is very difficult, I know that fighting and resisting will make things worst, it is also quite difficult in this day and age with all the NEAR pornography adverts just about everywhere we go, even in our own homes through the internet. I mean even something as innocent as HOTMAIL has posted some nearly porographic ads. This of course stimulates me sexually and I go through the whole habit of masturbation, wasting energy, feeling guitly.
I feel i’am in a vicious cycle –
SEXUALLY AROUSED from thoughts, old habits, and external things (seeing female, ads, television, etc)

MASTURBATION – I mentally know it will be bad, but still do it out of habit, and pleasure. But I have done it so much times it is not even pleasurable anymore. I think I have completely screwed my brain and nervous system. I use to get this very BLISSFUL, OPENESS feeling when I ejculated. Now I feel nothing but aches and pains and headaches after masturbation.

GUILT, ANGER, DEPRESSION – after ejculating I immediately feel really guilty, stupid, and depressed, and angry at myself for masturbating and wasting energy, and going through the whole cycle while mentally knowing that it will bring harm I still do it

I feel as if I’am slowly killing myself, and I feel like i’m dying many times. I feel so low on energy, feelings, love.. I don’t even know what love is, or what life is..
I know it is bad, and yet I do not know it is bad…
I know I have the power to stop and put and end to this habit, and yet I can’t..
I also get caught in this mind thoughts loops, and it drives me nuts..to much thinking, confusion, depression, and anger..
I feel this place is like my last resort for help, I hope that there is at least one understanding person out there who can help. Thank you for taking your time to read, and understand my problem. This means more to me then you can imagine.
I pray that help will come which will guide me to a new, and better direction in life..

JohnathanApril 13, 2006 at 10:55 pm #12681There is definetly good news that you came to this realization at a young age. It sounds like you probably depleted your jing through excessive sex but the good news you can build it back up.

My main qigong teacher these days is Kenneth S. Cohen. He wrote a book called The Way of Qigong you can pick up for like $10 on Amazon or most any bookstore.
As a very general guidline, I would reccommend practicing emptiness meditation followed by standing meditation for 20 minutes each every day(total 40 minutes) do this for 3 months. This will give you a chance to discipline your mind and build up your qi through 2 simple practices. Also look into a physical practice such as those taught by Matt Furey or Dragondoor.
For more thorough advice I would see a Doctor of TCM or qi healer.

My first thought is that you don’t sound like a 19 years old guy at all.
But let’s pretend you are:
some rapid fixes: If you can change your personal data in hotmail so that it believes you are a woman it will respect you more. I did it in yahoo and the porno ads stopped immediatly.
second rapid fix: after you ejaculate massage your kidneys, let them relax. Learn to feel your kidneys, and to feel when they are contracted or relaxed…
Plenty of people will now explain you what to do energetically. So I shall not enter into that. I will just give you some basic practical hints that will make your life less miserable while you try to solve the problem.
Get plenty of protein after you ejaculate, but also before. Very often people in meditation are vegetarian, and reach a ‘critical state’ where they have just the right amount of protein to keep going. Then they ejaculate and they feel like dying. And as a general advise, don’t starve your body for the desire to be chaste. Yes people have done it, and there are plenty of reasons why it is not a good idea…
Get the 100 days to better health, good sex and long life book and learn the technique from there to backtracking the thoughts (I think is in the third week). And use that technique when you find yourself following a train of thoughts induced by an ads.
Understand that ads are not real. Think a second before and a second after of the shot: “ok, move a little bit, smile, raise the hand, pretend your lover is there”, SHOT, ” ok, let’s do another one, now …”.
As a final warning, avoid to split your mind. Avoid to create a sub personality that looks for sex, and a second ‘virtuous’ sub personality that would never do that. Trying to kill one while identifying with the other. I never saw that working, instead it tends to make your life more miserable as you start to swing between the two.
So, for example trying to get your life ‘generally’ better, so that you don’t reach that level of anger, frustration, tiredness, in which you compulsively masturbate will give you more than trying to force sex out of your life.
Learning to have sex without falling in that depth of misery will make you a more complete person than would cutting off sex altogether. This in the assumption that you are a person that naturally enjoys sex (when you are not ill), which you very much sound like.
Now let’s have all the other tell you where to move the energy, where to concentrate and so on.

I am in my 20’s and I had a friend at your age that I helped out through the same thing. He was astounded at my martial art feats and I told him it’s because of qigong, ordinary people cannot perform such things. This really motivated him to get into qigong but he had the masturbation problem and he couldn’t build enough jing and his qigong wasn’t getting anywhere.
Let me give you some pointers that helped get my friend through it back in high school.
Firstly, I would like to emphasize diet. What is your diet like? Start eating plenty, and I mean plenty of greens. They cool down the sympathetic nervous system and decrease your sexual impulse by a huge thread. Stop eating red meat, increases sexual hormones and makes you have more sexual, agitated thoughts. Better not to eat red foods and eat plenty of green foods. Try more fruits and vegetables and less meat and dairy – bad stuff!
The link at the bottom will direct you to Dr. Lin’s site with plenty of young teenagers like you who have the same problem like you. Send Dr. Lin an e-mail with your problem, he is very friendly and will help you out. Scout the whole site.
I never had this problem because I always recycle my sexual energy up my spine and down to my dantian (navel center). When you get a sexual thought, just place your intent on your jade pillow gate (that’s a pump on the base of your brain above the throat) and your penis. Just guide the sexual energy to the jade pillow from the tip of your penis and perineum (huiyin) then it will move pump it down over your head and be recycled. You’ll be in safe territory. Go ahead with Dr. Lin’s anal breathing on his site, you’ll find it.
Also, because of my hard Shaolin and Tibetan Lion’s Roar training, my testosterone was always burnt up and had little sexual desire. Try something basic like a horse stance and keep practicing it often everyday. It isn’t dangerous, just don’t focus your qi anywhere, be natural and keep practicing. It will make your legs stronger and build up growth hormone that will help you curb your sexual appetite. Just bend your legs down and hold the stance for about 5 minutes. Keep going down until you get to a level where your knees and hips are parallel, ie. thighs parallel to the ground. Do 3x daily atleast 5 minutes each time.
Try suiting the inner smile to your needs. Use blue colour for the heart and red colour for the kidneys. Link them to your sexual organs and protrude calmness to them. The cool blue heart will lower the sympathetic function and warm kidneys will strengthen the parsympathetic nervous system and will build up jing. Massage the kidneys by first bringing qi from the palms to the back with warm hands. Practice the 6 healing sounds but emphasize the heart sound. Practice it many times and feel heat moving out of your heart, feel the coolness there. Make the heart heat move down to warm the kidneys and kidney coolness cool the heart with the sounds.
The parasympathetic/sympathetic nervous system is the main reason for your sexual desire. Each ejaculation really makes your parasympathic function very weak and sympathetic function very strong. You get lower back pain, impotentence, dizziness, weak eyesight, thin legs, weak willpower, weak erection, weak bones, etc. You know the symptoms. Focus on strengthening the parasympathetic function with the tips I gave you and weaken the sympathetic function. In Chinese Medicine, the heart controls the sympathetic nervous system and kidneys control the parasympathetic nervous system. Dr. Lin has a good Viagrowth package for this too.
I guarantee that with these tips, you’ll curb your sexual appetite in no time. Shape the life force into what you want it to do, in this case, curbing your sexual appetite. You will be as free as a bird. Good luck!

What I suggest is to continue looking at the pronography and instead of ejaculating start breathing the sexual energy up your spine by inhaling 9,18 or 36 times focusing on your penis and rocking your pelvis forward on your chair as you do this to bring the energy up the spine. You can also breathe in golden earth chi from the ground and mix it with pink chi from your genitals and bring that mixture up your spine or in general up the body, then bring that to your brain and circulate that 9xs one way and 9x’s the other and then circulate that through the microcosmic orbit finally bringing it up to your kidneys from the perineum. Then repeat that cycle and bring it up to the liver, then spleen, then lungs and heart. Alternatively you can simply mix the sexual and earth chi and breathe it down to the center of the earth and back. Be sure NOT to ejaculate if you can help it. You will steadily have more energy and become more stable and can then choose what to do next. I suggest you also start practicing standing meditation perhaps in conjuction with fusion of the 5 elements to begin gaining more emotional control. I learned the sexual practice with pornography myself and currently don’t look at porn at all although I was quite addicted similarly to you. Best wishes,

Personally, I don’t know if this is a good idea for a beginner. When aroused, the energy is quite hot and gets out of control, and for a beginner with weak qi and poor circulation from damaged jing, it is very difficult to circulate that energy up the spine, rather the addicting behaviour would force one to ejaculate that hot aroused energy.
I would recommend staying away from this and first building enough qi and opening the spine through spinal breathing first. Inhale from the huyin (perineum) to baihui (top of head), then exhale back down again and keep repeating it. Better to do this first. I guess Johnathon could experiment with it, but I think it is better to stay away from this and first circulate and build up more qi, then practice the spinal breathing but inhale from the tip of the erect penis.
Try to quickly make the penis flaccid and exhale to dantian. Keep doing it until penis goes flaccid and keep recycling the qi with emphasis on strengthening the parasympathetic nervous system and weakening the sympathetic nervous sysytem. Btw, a good one for Johnathon might be to go check alchemicaltaoism.com and check healing tao section.
Also, try inhaling the cool jing from the testicles up the spine too. This way, there will be less of a loss if you do decide to ejaculate. The key is practice, practice, and more practice.
Try the anal breathing by Dr. Lin, practice those methods too. Dr. Lin bridged the gap between Eastern Sexuality and Western Science. Just simply inhale air through the eight holes of the sacrum and feel the suction and sacrum/tailbone contracting. Practice this and stay away from contracting the pubococcygeal musclses, they increases the sympathetic charge in those nerves, S2-S4, it creates constant arousal. Better to contract the parasympathetic nerves for calmness in the genital region. Feel free to experiment Johnathon.
I am very motivated and strong willed. When I was young like Jonathon, I had a very little social life, I use to train hard all day. I was pushed by my Tibetan teacher to my limits. The key is to make the training natural to you. For me, watching television for long hours is difficult, for many Americans it is very easy. I would rather train for 7 hours than watch TV for 7 hours. This is because I developed my training into such a habit, a natural habit.
My best advice Jonathon, is too practice these methods non-stop for hours at a time, it will become very habitual. At first, it will seem like a chore, but after it becomes effortless and you can overcome your problem. Nothing is impossible. The only limits lie in your mind, just push yourself to practice and forcefully overcome laziness. Smile to your kidneys and ask them to help strengthen your willpower. They are the source of it.

Golden Sun – I will be practicing meditation to build mental discipline – though it seems very difficult – my mind seems to never “shut up” – in meditation, or my atempt at meditation leads to thoughts which I identify with and then I start day dreaming or falling asleep – I loose the awareness – however, thank you for reminding me about the importance of meditation as a foundation for mental discipline, I think this will greatly help in find peace in mind
PietroS – I have went with the hotmail suggestions, and have not noticed any sexual ads so far, thank you for suggestion! – Thank you for reminding me about balance, and that sex is not bad – I understand that it is not, however, I don’t have a partner to excercise loving/harmonizing/proper sex – I’m planning to stop ejaculation completely, and then praticing loving, harmonizing sex when I do find a partner, though that is in the future which is uncertain
futureimmortal – Thank you for your suggestion, I find that looking at porngraphy and trying to practice the excerise is difficult. The reason why is I already have a negative attitude toward porongraphy, I’m distracted by it as well, and feel a huge need to ejaculate to realease all the tension – the biggest reason why it is difficult is because I have completely lost power to control my ejculation – I prematurely ejculate, and leak semen when I try to resist from ejculating to porngraphy. However, thank you for sharing your method and experience, I’m happy and greatful that it has helped you get out of old habits!
Fajin – Your story and the others have helped inspired me to also go learn the way of Tao and Qi Gong. Thank you for your healthy practice suggestions; However, I do have some questions
diet with more greens, less red – when you say more greens can you give me an example of the greens I should be eating, when you say green I think of: brocoli, celery, green beans, lettuce, choy, is there any particular greens I should eat, and also does it get specific to the point where I should be eating them at a certain time of day etc? Less red, or meat/diary in general – doesn’t this mean a drop in protien? won’t this effect sexual growth or healing in any way, or were we taught/tricked by society that red meat is good for us because of protien, and calcium from milk/diary – what If I try to balance, eat a lot of greens, but also eat some reds, and or meats? As for diary, what can I eat to replace the missing nutrients from diary products such as calcium? Personal question, do you eat meat yourself Fajin? and do you consume any diary products?
3x daily horse stance – minimum 5 minutes – this I can do, but what should I be thinking mentally while I practice this excerise – and is there any other details I should be aware of, proper stance, foot position etc?
inner smile – blue color to heart, red to kidneys – the Healing Tao teachs red to heart, blue to kidneys – I understand that you reversed it because of my particular situation – however, when do I know to switch back to the normal red/heart, blue/kidney excerise
6 healing sounds – emphize heart with the haw sound, do more then the others, and use heart heat to warm kidneys, and kidneys to cool heart

When I get a sexual/lustful thought, just place your intent – what is the intent suppose to be? is it suppose to be the thought of not having sex, of loving thoughts, or is the intent the acutaly lust/sex thought itself?
jade pillow gate – is there a diagraphm, picture, map online which gives details on where jade pillow, huiyin etc is on the body? I’am going to assume from the description you have given, that the jade pillow point is right below the brain where my skull ends, but above my neck.
So this is how I interpret the suggestion: when I have sexual thoughts, I focus the sexual thought in my penis, and perineum point, I imagine the sexual thought moving from the penis/perineum up my spine all the way to the jade pillow – from the jade pillow I envision it acting as a pump which pumps the sexual thought to the top of my head, to the front of my face, down the front of the body to the dan tien, I imagine the dan tien consuming the sexual energy/and transforming it into a white light
*as I imagine sexual thoughts going from penis/pernium up to spine, do I need to breath in and clench/hold in my anus, tailbone? or anything like that*
is the dan tien, located exactly where the navel/belly botton is? or is it a lower then the navel/belly botton area? also i’m I suppose to sprial, or use some sort of spiral, gathering motion with hands to gather the sexual energy when the recycling the energy is complete?
How many times do I do this? or do I do this until the sexual thought disppears?
I find that when I do healing practices such as inner smile, healing sounds, hatha yoga, 5 tibetans, and not ejaculate and watch porn, in about a week I feel really healed and better, HOWEVER.. thats when the huge sexual energy urge comes, I don’t feel depressed or feel the need to masturbate, but I feel I have this HUGE sexual energy in my body and it acts like tension driving me nuts… and of course the only way I know how to get rid of that is to masturbate and watch porn. And of course after all those weeks of no ejculation and practice of healing I waste it all on ejculation, and feel really crappy and the vicious cycle repeats..
Here is my plan, and i’m going to try my best:
Stop ejaculation completely – will not watch porn – will not masturbate – I plan to ejaculate, and have sex when I find a partner in the future, but this time to cultivate sex in a loving, harmonizing matter instead of just physical pleasureIts probably going to be a while until I find a partner, or I might never find one – so in the meantime I plan to “RECYCLE the sexual energy” To recycle sexual energy I imagine the sexual energy in my penis and pernium, I breath in and imagine the sexual energy/thought going up through my spine in the back all the way up to the jade pillow at the back of the head (between skull/neck) – I imagine the jade pillow pumping the sexual energy up to the top of my head, down to the front of my face, and body all the way to the front where the dan tien is – I store the sexual energy in the dan tien and imagine the sexual energy is now white/creative/loving energy
I will continue to practice innersmile, six healing sounds, and learn new qi gong excerises to help heal and bring balance to the body
I will eat a lot more greens, fruits and veges, drink lots of water, and also consume meat (but only little, or just enough) By the way is there any good alternative for cerals? the cerals are loaded with sugar, I want to find a natural breakfast oat/grains type of thing, anyone have anything to recommend?
The diet and healing practices will hopefully bring more balance, but when the great sexual urge or feeling comes I will “recycle it”

That covers the sex part, but then I also live in a lifestyle, where EVERYONE in my life (friends, family, coworkers, peers) watches tv, eats junk/fast food, plays computer games, do nothing but msn/icq chat thing – essentially excessive unhealthy activities – I want to learn not to watch tv, or use computer excess, and to now eat those unhealthy foods, but its difficult when everyone around me does it
I don’t have any friends who want to go for walks, hikes, biking, or practice qi gong
Also I find when I have a lot of time, my negative habits come back, so I’m going to create new habits, to train and to discipline myself, but does anyone have any other suggestions? Say for example Fajin, what is your dialy life like besides training, and eating healthy? What other leisure, or type of acitivites do you do to have fun, or living out throughout the day?
I think perhaps I have created a dependency on “friends” and others, perhaps I need to learn to be my own friend, and to accept that aloneness is acutally okay…
I’am so pissed at our social conditioning from society, it is totally wacked! It leads people to slowly commiting suicide by harming, and brining suffering and imbalance in their own life…

Nutrition is a big topic and I don’t want to cover it here. It was covered in posts earlier like the Five Elements topics, just look ’em up. Try eating more leafy greens like arufula, kale, spinach, etc. Make salads, blend them with fruits, make it tasty. It is the best stuff you can eat. Yes, red meat is very bad and dairy is not good either.
Ejaculating causes a huge loss in calcium and magnesium making your bones weaker. Americans consume the most dairy in the world and have the most cases of arthritis and osteoperosis. Greens have plenty of calcium, eat them and your bones will be strong.
You should try cooling the heart with cool blue colour and sound much more frequently and warm the kidneys with red colour like you replied until you have gotten rid of your addiction. Then, you can go back to using red colour for the heart and blue colour for the kidneys. When you have stopped masturbating for a month or so, and have no more urges, I think it’s safe to say it’s gone.
You can try any kind of static contraction exercises, I just gave you one that is good for your legs because ejaculation really depletes them. Any kind of static exercise will help burn lots of testosterone and therefore lessen sexual cravings. The more practice, the better. Just make your feet parallel to each other, it isn’t complicated.
Whe I said intent, I mean like your awareness. For example, when you smile to your liver, your awareness is on your liver right? You place your attention or awareness on the area and try to feel the sensation of qi there. It directs the qi from other areas to the spot where your awareness is. The jade pillow gate is on the back of the head beginning with the hairline and is about a palms width. It pumps up jing over the top of your head and down again.
Just move the qi by guiding the feeling of hot aroused qi from the tip of your penis and huiyin simultaneously up the spine to your jade pillow until the urges are done and the energy leaves your penis completely. Feel the sensation of qi, the more you will gather and thus, better to circulate it. Better to first practice spinal breathing and open the area up. The dantian is the main storage center of qi and many schools place it on the navel or about 4 finger widths below the navel. Of course, it is inside the body, focus about 2 inches inside the body. Don’t do any kind of dantian exercises right after ejaculating however, practice ATLEAST 24 hours after.
When solving any kind of problem, ALWAYS go to the root of it. Contemplate this my friend. Use this as a guide to create your plan. When you understand the root of a tree, you understand all of its blossoming.
I would recommend for you to try actionlove.com and buy Michael’s fundamentals 1 and 2. This will give you a good start in Dao and qigong. You don’t need to shut your thoughts up or forcefully try to achieve some imagined quiet state. Theprocess of meditation is about becoming AWAKE You want to practice awareness of being awake to your thoughts and what is happening in your body and what is happening in your life.
At first you will be watching and listening to alot of noise but with dedicated practice this will quiet down naturally and probably your qi will begin to clear up more. Also, standing is an awesome practice to build up qi and a wonderful compliment to sitting.
And of course if you feel drawn to anything anyone else has said please explore that as you think it could be helpful.
April 14, 2006 at 7:55 pm #12701The deeper you go with the qi sensation, the less thoughts spring up. Be one with your qi. Feel it. Do not picture in your mind what is happening but feel the sensation as your mind guides it. You’ll get it, just practice. As you strengthen your parasympathetic nervous system (kidneys) and weaken your sympathetic nervous system (heart), your mind will be calm, patient, and relaxed, and you will be strong willed.

What you describe could viewed as a “sex addiction”, don’t be embarrassed either these problems are becoming very problematic; I supplied a link that links to other areas of interest. Dr. Carnes is a leader in Western Psychology with these matters related to your pattern. Sounds like it is draining you, respiratory Qigong, Healing Sounds will help clean out sickly energy, basic grounding is very helpful.
We all have to protect our sense organs eyes, hearing, talking the biggies. I work with addicts of all forms, and all the practices described give a good start; work with fundamentals Michaels are highly recommended, build from the basis of “less is more”.
Stay very active and avoid isolation especially with your computer, it takes about 14-21 days to detox from the pattern behavior and clean the body out. Practice outside in a park if possible, clean the body out daily, a few times if possible.
Work with a accomplishable goal that you can achieve. Calm the emotional body-mind down.
Personally I would think a therapist would be advisable that does body-mind healing.
You can beat this habit and re-empower yourself. I hope this helps, good luck

Without wanting to overload you, here are 2 thingsI have not tried it yet, but from what I’ve seen thus far, and based on freeforms’ recomendation, you might want to check out http://www.emofree.com/
To help replace spent jing, add a small amount of lycium berries (AKA lycium barbarum AKA gou qi zi) with water, place in a blender and mix.
Then put them into a non steele pot and simmer for a while (15 – 30 minutes should do) strain and drink throughout the day.This is very good to replenish the kidney yin. (weak knees/back etc) If it makes your stool loose, just lower the dosage, or add a gentle spleen tonic.
But DEFINETLY DO NOT HAVE ASIAN GEINSENG it stimulates the sympathetic nervous system way too much. That is the number 1 herb to avoid.
There are other jing replenishers, but I caution to say any more ’cause it’s so individual. (Just like Trunk said a while ago, we really need a TCM practitioner around here)

Basically, you are not alone in this experience.Just a note on the lycium berries. If you can, blend them long enough for the seed to rupture. There is someting intrinsic in the seed.
