I’ve quoted from Eva Wong’s ‘Tales of the Taoist Immortals’ here before, and I love this book. Not only great reading, but some nice hints and insights into the various kinds of Taoism.
In the “Magicians” section of the book appears a chapter on Ko Hsuan, who lived 220-265 AD and is thus a rough contemporary of Iamblichus :). He collected and edited the Ling Pao scriptures (‘sacred spirit’ or ‘sacred jewel’ scriptures) although he did not start the Ling Pao tradition which began well after him.
The folk tale of his life involves various healings using sigils and so forth, which is a technique also used incidentally in the ‘Dragon Gate’ book. This following one is particularly interesting given all the recent talk about reptilians, snakes, serpents and dragons:
———————————————-
Ko Hsuan was walking on the north slopes of Mount Hua when he noticed a dark shape hovering over a house. Sensing there was an evil spirit inside, he transformed himself into a farmer and knocked on the door.
A scholar welcomed him in, and Ko Hsuan said, “I need someone to help me with the harvest today.”
“I will be glad to help you,” replied the scholar.
Ko Hsuan led the scholar away from the house and said, “There is an evil snake spirit in your house posing as your wife. She has already eaten alot of children in the village.”
When the scholar refused to believe him, Ko Hsuan took the man into the woods and showed him a pit filled with skulls and bones.
The scholar shook with fear and said, “What should I do?”
Ko Hsuan said, “Tonight you must occupy her attention so that I can capture her.”
The scholar went into the village and bought a bolt of cloth. That evening, he presented it to his wife and tried to get her to talk about the clothes she would make. Meanwhile, Ko Hsuan set up an altar outside the house, drew his talismans, and chanted incantations. When the woman realized that she had been trapped, she transformed herself into a large python and tried to swallow the scholar. Seeing this, Ko Hsuan drew his sword, threw it at the snake, and impaled it against the wall. Stench filled the room, and scorpions and centipedes crawled out of cracks in the wall to dissolve into a puddle of dark liquid.
Ko Hsuan drew another talisman, burned it, and told the scholar to eat the ashes. After the scholar swallowed the burned talisman, he began to vomit a thick yellow liquid. Hsuan said to him, “You were poisoned by the snake spirit. If you didn’t have a spark of goodness in you, you would have become a vampire yourself.”

Obviously not a kundalini tale! ๐ Since we were talking about Darth Maul, I have to note the similarity of this story to another pop tale for kids, C.S. Lewis’ “The Silver Chair” – the plot and denouement are remarkably similar, right down to the smell! This wasn’t research, it was a story looking to be told. Fantasy authors pick up alot of those, I recall from when I was into all of them – they almost could be said to channel them…
In that Lewis story the man was enslaved by a silver chair, silver for moon. The moon tarot card shows a scorpion and speaks of the kidneys and sexual system. The full moon connects to the sexual system. These things are linked to a deep snakiness which is also linked to kundalini, but the dragon image is entirely absent. It is plain that our internal reptilianism can go either way. Was the woman a demon, or possessed by one? Such things could happen… especially if you believe bloody David Icke! ๐ but what’s interesting is how vampirism and the need for human blood/flesh and this darker reptilianism seem linked again here… ๐
Incidentally Ko Hsuan shouldn’t be confused with his rough contemporary Chang Tao-Ling, another magician-taoist who founded the ‘celestial masters’ school – that same magical taoist lineage which the westerner Michael Saso recently became involved in. Saso has been talked about a bit on here I seem to recall.
Also wanted to give the folk tale about the end of Ko Hsuan’s life, for no other reason than that I happen to really like it:
———————————————————————
When Hsuan knew that it was time for him to leave the mortal realm, he built a hut in the mountains and set up a furnace and a cauldron to make the elixir of immortality.
One winter day, he was out in the woods gathering roots and minerals, barefoot and dressed in a sleeveless shirt. [all taoists in folk tales are warm in the cold and cool in the heat! – j]. Two daughters of a woodcutter, who were helping their father carry firewood home, saw him digging in the snowy ground. Not knowing that Ko Hsuan was a Taoist adept, the sisters said to each other, “This man doesn’t even have shoes and a warm coat. We should help him.”
One woman made a pair of shoes and the other made a wool shirt. They brought their gifts to Ko Hsuan’s home and called to him, “Old man, we have brought you shoes and a coat.”
When there was no answer, the sisters opened the door of the hut and walked in. Inside they found a furnace with smouldering ashes, a cauldron, and a note that said, “I thank you for your gifts. If you open the cauldron, you will find two halves of a pill. These are my gifts to both of you.”
The sisters found the pill and swallowed it. From that day on, the women stopped ageing. They maintained their youth and vigour all their lives and lived for over a hundred years.
They also found a letter on a table. On the envelope was written, “An Invitation to the Immortal Ko from the Celestial Lords.” It was then that they realized Ko Hsuan had ascended to immortality.

Fascinated by the role of Taoist Immortals as Demon exorcists. Chang Tao Ling, another exorcist is on the front of my favourite book of the I Ching, riding a sabretoothed tiger I think.
As to the woman being possesed or not, there does seem to be a Patriarchal, woman supressing element to later Taoism, even though I am convinced it originated amongst these female shamans.
The most famous vampire of them all was named after a Dragon and thus a descendant of the order of the dragon. Vlad the Impaler himself – Dracula.
Some of the lower level immortals actually behaved like vampires/Hungry ghosts and maintained their form through parasitism of blood/Jing. Not true Immortality of course, but giving the search for Immortality a bad name definitely.Talking about writers channeling, I’m sure R.E Howard was a perfect example of this. He even wrote about Conan almost being over his shoulder directing his writing. Plenty of serpent magic in his tales – Thoth-Amon – worshipper of Set and snake shifter, Conan’s archenemy. All fantasy and Science fiction derives from the Astral reality in my opinion and this is the only real origin of aliens (alienated/alienating spirits). It is the ASTRAL plane after all. The stars are within the Earth as R.J. Stewart says.

I totally agree the low astral is, as Michael once said, very similar to 'bad late-night tv'! And people get hooked into energies that way for sure. But on the 'aliens' themselves I'm not exactly sure the full story is that simple… we'll see I guess!

October 8, 2007 at 3:45 pm #24770I find it intersting the way the life force mirrors our inner shadow with the outer shadow. Great back ground stuff from you both. I view parasites as indicators that one has lost there way, of coures you have to know when you have them and that takes getting them a couple times and nowing that its parasites that you got. Most people have them it is sorta the norm so getting clear of them may start to qlue people in. I found it takes mainly internal alchemy, and some external alchemy to help shift stuff at the jing level. The porn parasite connectin is big, and ties into your sex relating to parasites(I have heard that parasites were called demons in the old days, aka Bible). It relates to will and sexual energy, I feel.

You have to melt them off somehow yeah. I suppose if you think most people have them, and that they're a sign of losing your way, then you think most people have lost their way… I sort of agree with that really on the whole, it's really weird too how much the world seems to conspire against anyone really doing anything about it mostly – time management reasons, belief system reasons… it's almost as if…. THE REPTILIANS CONTROL THE MEDIA!!!!! hahahaha sorry j
October 8, 2007 at 9:36 pm #24774haha, becarefull people might think you mean the jews. We do conspire against ourselves, thats why it is piontless to fight, because we whould be fighting ourselves and lossing time and energy. Make love not war man, make little love babys, and compassion babys, and gental babys. ๐
October 8, 2007 at 9:42 pm #24776I thought of a nother way to put it. Nature is feeding of nature, so often it is the weak that get eaten. So parasites are there to feed off those that choose to not empower them selves. They, like other predators will find the weak link in your chain. Thats also good feed back.
October 9, 2007 at 8:28 am #24778True to a certain extent, but I believe that the Darwinian, competitive, us against them, survival of the fittest view of nature is only one aspect of nature, it’s lowest. Trouble is, that view has been promoted to the exclusion of the other aspect, the symbiotic, co-operative, integrational (if thats a word, perhaps Alchemical is better) which includes competition but goes beyond it, like true martial arts.
This view is the real driving force of evolution in my opinion. We are here basically because organisms co-operated with each other throughout evolutionary history. Bacteria transforming our atmosphere, mitochondia mergeing with primordial cells to form our oxygen metabolising cells (Lynn Margulis), retroviruses influencing DNA expression (linked with Reptilaian mutation of our DNA?) gut flora, dogs, cats, mushrooms, power plants (Terence McKenna), power animals and guardian spirits (MIchael Harner). Fusion (Michael Winn).
Who enforced the lower, dominant view? The parasites and predators (half-initiated) who have hijacked society of course, who cannot create but can only replicate the work of others for their own distorted ends!
But true, alchemy is the way out!Dylan
October 9, 2007 at 12:18 pm #24780It is a very complex cooperation, I like to call it a sexual symphony with some disharmonys. I was trying to honnor the role of parasites. We can choose to be good hosts, give them lots of good sexual energy and food, a nice warm place to stay. Our we can reclam our, body, and our creative energy to use as we want. Nature just feeds when food is there. Something interesting, is if we look at our money or current-cy as our energy we can find some big parasites. It is that whole martix battery thing.
October 10, 2007 at 10:52 am #24782Well, yes you are right, they are definitely part (but only a part)of the natural order.
