Buddhist and Taoists scriptures alike has taught us to NOT to have thoughts. But,
I find it very difficult NOT to have thoughts especially if we must go through life events every day!
Please shed a light on this topic.
    Thank you!!

    Hello True self

I feel that “not to have thoughts” might be a litle to strong words. Perhaps it better to think “Not paing to much atention to your thoughts and feelings”. Not think that you are your thoughts and feelings. They are more coming and going like clouds on the heaven. Not making them so big deal you have the possibility to feel the emptyness behind them and perhaps feel this is your true self.

    I agree.

I listened to a CD series by Pema Chodron, one
of the experienced Buddhist nuns that puts out
    instructional books/CDs.

She said pretty much what you said, SD.

She said that after decades of meditation, she still
has thoughts arise every so often during it.
The difference is that they sort of pass by unfettered,
and don’t “hook” her attention–allowing her to stay
more frequently in the present moment.

Of course, this goes right to True.Self’s other question
about the present moment, and how to stay in it.

There’s no easy answer to that one.
Ultimately it just comes down to a matter of practice and
cultivation over a period of time.

Qigong, meditation, contemplation, etc. are all
tools that can be used to increase one’s success
with staying in the present moment.

However, the bottom line is time. Time with consistent
practice of some form with that goal in mind.
