I have always been plagued with a clogged nose. On occasion I will have a great day or two that I am clear and can practice the microcosmic orbit ,six healing sounds, and the inter smile. The problem is I wake up with congestion and can’t practice until I clear up. Any suggestions, of something I can practice, maybe while I am congested.
October 23, 2011 at 4:56 pm #38039I would practice more movement practices, such as qigong.
It would help get the blood and fluids moving.Once you do so, and you head clears, then being stationary
for meditation will probably be easier for you.As for the congestion, you might try increasing your
daily consumption of water and increase vitamin C intake.
You may find a reduction in symptoms.S
October 24, 2011 at 12:05 am #38041Thanks Steve, your right about the movement it seems to be the only thing that relieves the congestion. I got so congested I even tried some over the counter medicine, and thought it would really knock it,( since I never take any medicine ever). But it didn’t even phase it. I’ll be hot after getting some exercise to get rid of whatever this is. I haven’t started iron shirt or tai chi chi kung as yet still working with the Awaken Healing Light of the Tao and Taoist Secrets of Love. So, let me ask, in your opinion should I jump ahead you might say and start studying those other practices.
October 24, 2011 at 7:36 am #38043While I have the utmost respect for M. Chia, and
don’t want to discourage you from solely following
materials put out by him, one of the flaws in his system
is the relative lack of moving qigong.Yes, Tai Chi Qigong is movement, and the Iron Shirt practices
are very physical, but there really isn’t enough in the
way of moving qigong practices in my opinion. This is
one area that Michael Winn has corrected with his DVD/CD
home study courses. In Michael’s program, each DVD has a
qigong (movement) set or sets that corresponds to the sitting
meditations that you are learning. For instance, Qigong Fundamentals 1 DVD teaches the Five Animals,
a fun movement qigong to do the Six Healing Sounds in motion;
meditations and theory are covered on the QF1 CD set. Similarly
with the QF2 DVD & CD sets, DVD has movement qigong to open orbit
while CD has theory and meditations.I recommend getting these so you have some qigong to do that
involves moving your body.To answer your original question, you can get started with
Iron Shirt Qigong I and Tai Chi Qigong I now if you wish,
no harm . . . Tai Chi Qigong I has Iron Shirt I as prerequisite
only because it helps you to have a better structure in Tai Chi
(primary reason), but this you can always correct this later. There
is no reason why you couldn’t start it now. (Or pick up Michael’s
Primordial Qigong DVD, which is an “alternate Tai Chi form”; it
has no prerequisites.)Iron Shirt I you can start now, just skip all the exercises and
information about “qi packing (chi packing)” as this can be
somewhat dangerous if your channels are not open properly or
it is done incorrectly; however, practicing the standing postures
in and by themselves without qi packing is perfectly safe; just
listen to your body so that you don’t overdo it physically.Be very careful doing practices from Taoist Secrets of Love,
if your microcosmic orbit is not open, if you are not energetically
grounded, if you have energy blocked in the head/upper regions (say
from congestion), you could create some undesirable side effects.Best,
StevenOctober 24, 2011 at 11:25 am #38045I just placed an order for QF! and QF2. It will be alot easier communicating with other if I’m on the same page as well. Thanks for your help Steve
October 24, 2011 at 2:02 pm #38047I´m just curious if you have tried the different kind of nose massages in the Qi self massage program?
October 24, 2011 at 2:58 pm #38049October 24, 2011 at 3:43 pm #38051I have tried the various nose massages to no avail. The one thing that does seem to help is head knocking, it relieves the pressure temporarily. I also get some relief thru hand reflexology, however that is a very short term fix as well. The only thing that keeps my nose clear thru the night is a hard days work.

October 24, 2011 at 6:39 pm #38055Yes, I have and it always seemed as though it just made it worse. But once you asked I looked it up on the net and found out about drying. I never got any information about the drying process in the kit I got from the pharmacy. So with this new info I tried it again and it worked, all cleared up. So, thanks for the tip that made me reexamine this process.

At one point years back I remember having some chronic nasal congestion. I went to see a friend who was practicing acupuncture, I had told her my issue and she gave me two different acupuncture sessions about 1 week apart. In addition she gave me some Eucalyptus oil to drop in hot water for aroma therapy. I can say the the acupuncture really worked as it went away in never came back
So depending on your location perhaps you can look up somebody local to you and try scheduling an appointment.
Best,
Damon
November 20, 2011 at 4:51 am #38061My nose is/was always blocked too. 15 years or so i had the problem. It’s connected to my stomach / large intestine i can actually feel it now. When i relax this area within 5 minutes my nose clears up. It literally is that quick. It has taken me years to work this out though. As you practice you will find the tension within yourself which causes your nose to be blocked.
Another thing to be careful of is dairy. If you drink milk do you get that flemmy stuff in the back of your throat. Anyhow in TCM anything that causes dampness in your stomach (very easy from dairy) can put the dampness into your lung causing a blocked nose. Try go off dairy for a couple of weeks and see what that does. Also wheat is not that good either. I used to eat heaps of wheat but now i don’t really eat much at all. It’s alright to have for lunch in a sandwich or something but not toast/cereal for breaky then bread with dinner again at night and cakes etc during the day. In fact by just eating fruit nuts veges and meat it’s amazing how good i feel and meditation is just easier. It’s like it puts me in a meditative state and it just is so easy to go deeper. Not like before i was always fighting with my lifestyle to try to relax with qigong.
Good luck!
November 20, 2011 at 7:18 pm #38063I really appreciate your input and will start with your suggestions immediately.
November 21, 2011 at 9:16 pm #38065Let me know how you go in a couple of weeks i will be interested to hear. Also there are some pressure points beside your nose just press in at the sore spot either side of your nose about midway down your nose (on your cheeks) and hold it for a minute or so. Do this a few times a day especially after meditation and you will feel it start to loosen up your nose. It’s not gunna fix it straight away but its just adding something else to improve it. You can also rub these areas quiet hard and rub till they get hot and it will help losen it up too. Just think TCM says it is dampness so any heat / movement / circulation you can get on these pressure points is going to improve it. At least untill you relax your body after you learn qigong more and the bloodflow around the area increases by it’s self
It’s great having space in my pockets for my keys and my wallet now all the tissues have gone! haha
Good luck mate!
