Hello all,
I would like to share with you a simple idea I have gathered from my magical practice. I hope this is interesting. It is nothing glamorous but it is effective.
1st I have to tell you about this Japanese scientist, Masaru Emoto. Maybe this is nothing new to anyone, but in case: he exposes water to words and then freezes it, then photographs the resulting crystal. It is quite extraordinary what happens. If you say “Thankyou” to the water, a beautiful crystal forms – if you say “You Fool!” nothing forms at all. You can even just write the word and tape it on the glass! Of course he has played music and shown photographs to the water too, and some water is better than others for this also. His little book, “Hidden Messages in Water”, has the photos in.
In addition, it is not only water that takes on messages. He describes having two jars of rice – one was told “thankyou” every day, the other was told “you fool”. The 1st fermented in a month, went golden and smelled like malt. The 2md rotted and went black. What were the people thinking who grew my salad?? Prepare food with love… this you can experiment with pretty easily.
I’d like to share with you a practice that actually comes originally from Africa, but I’ve found variations of it everywhere. You take two cups. One is filled with liquid – water or something else. You invoke into this full cup whatever you like. It might be an element, a spirit, a quality or virtue, just a word, a song. You can prepare it or you can improvise. When it is present in the liquid, pour a little of it into the other cup. Then do that same thing again with another invocation. Continue until all the water is poured. Sprinkle some around the place and drink the rest.
This practice can also be done in a group, passing the cup.
Taoist practices with spit I think have some similarity? Some magicians spit to establish a relationship with a place. Or they spit and then draw a sign in the spit.
Not only this but every meal you prepare and eat, every step you take and every breath you take, I’ll be watching you… sorry, what happened there? What I meant is, they can all be made to have a meaning, it is only a question of how much you want to do it.
Unspectacular? Well try it for a month!
best, NN
(If stuff like this is not appropriate to post, not really completely connected with Taoism specifically, I hope someone will let me know. But you seem a very eclectic bunch)
December 3, 2005 at 9:08 am #9039Hey, not inappropriate for me in that it is something you feel engaged in and willing to share. I think the essence of Emoto’s work for me is that we are composed of water on a water planet so the inner smile isn’t only a fond intention but a deep resonance that affects us on all levels down to the molecular. The power of intention perhaps.
For clarity sake I didn’t quite follow the ritual. Are you saying to take one glass of liquid, imbue it with a felt quality and then pour part of that into another cup? And then what? Got a bit lost in there for me to picture.
Thanks, I appreciate your presence on the board. Magic is dear to my heart. babaDecember 3, 2005 at 10:24 am #9041Heya Baba –
>>For clarity sake I didn’t quite follow the ritual. Are you saying to take one glass of liquid, imbue it with a felt quality and then pour part of that into another cup? And then what?<< Sorry I wasn't clear... yes you have it right... and then simply repeat the process with another quality - summon and pour again. Repeat until you have poured all the drink into the other cup, swirl it around a bit in this cup and perhaps pour it a couple of times from cup to cup. Then flick some of the contents over the surrounding area to bless it with the qualities with which you've imbued it, before drinking the rest. >>I think the essence of Emoto’s work for me is that we are composed of water on a water planet so the inner smile isn’t only a fond intention but a deep resonance that affects us on all levels down to the molecular.<< Absolutely, I agree. I mean, this is what I already thought personally - it's just that I like Emoto's photography as an illustration of it. I don't like his writing much personally, but the photos are great. Because you can do this practice in a group, and because you can spread the drink around to the ground as well, it can establish a bond very well, a connectedness, on whatever level you require, over time. best NN
December 3, 2005 at 11:31 am #9043I suppose the water can be imbued with planetary qualities as well by being charged at particular times of the day to make temporary imbibable talismans. Collected dew might be a good source of water – provided the grass isn’t sprayed regularly with chemicals. What about using wine or brandy instead of water? This is getting into alchemy!

>>What about using wine or brandy instead of water? This is getting into alchemy!<< Yes you've got the idea. And not only liquids - also breaths and also food (Obviously with a few changes to the nature of the practice, but the principle is the same). You can see the catholic church was onto something with its communion service - it's just the idea that you only have to do it in church that is rubbish! You can have meaning in every step you take - imagine leaving something behind with every footprint. Going to the toilet as well! Yes you can charge for certain things at certain times - this does then become more alchemical. You can also summon the elements, spirits, etc, to bless the cup. If you experiment with pure water, you may find different blessings change the flavour of the water! I have been thinking of distilling and recondensing the water whilst blessing it too, that moves it definitely into alchemical territory. But there's much still to be experimented with here for me. As to "temporary imbibable talismans" - yes indeed. I'm planning to try this practice with various things over longer periods too before imbibing. The point is to use your imagination - this is the magical way I find. Then you *own* the ideas. best NN
December 3, 2005 at 9:52 pm #9047>Not only this but every meal you prepare and eat, every step you take and every breath you take, I’ll be watching you… sorry, what happened there?< LOL! - you had me in stiches for a good 10 minutes there! - kind of a creepy song when you see the lyrics without the music. The water invocation thing reminded me of a 'concious eating' excersise from Jason Newcomb. It involves looking at your food and mentaly tracing back the steps that it took to get to where it is now (you can start out simply - such as the shop, then previously some area that this grew, then how that species came to grow there etc. you can go quite far out - think about the effect that the water/sun/ solar system/ galaxy/time/big bang etc had on bringing the food to you. talk about alchemical!) Practicing this many times makes the excersise quite quick - and you cant help but feel absolutely amazed at all the inconceivable coincidences, synchronisities and incredibly powerfull forces that it took for the food to be in front of you. When eating/drinking/consuming the food it feels as if you're consuming the nutritional value of the entire universe - and if you decide, as described above, to invoke a specific quality to the food - then it feels as if over billions of years the entire universe has conspired to bring this specific item of food/drink saturated with this specific quality to You, right here and now! - very powerfull stuff indeed!

>>and if you decide, as described above, to invoke a specific quality to the food – then it feels as if over billions of years the entire universe has conspired to bring this specific item of food/drink saturated with this specific quality to You, right here and now! – very powerfull stuff indeed!<< I can only applaud! Yes I like Newcomb's version. Although he lifted it from Franz Bardon he put it in the particular light you say, of imagining what it took to get the food to you, which is cool. It brings up gratitude. best NN
December 4, 2005 at 6:57 pm #9051Hi NN
Food does seems to be important in various sacro-magical practices affirming bonds and various commitments. The idea of offering powerful guardians of spiritual teachings something as simple and homely as jam sandwiches has always tickled me.
>>You can have meaning in every step you take – imagine leaving something behind with every footprint. Going to the toilet as well! << Funny I've never really given the scared qualities of shit a thought before! It does lend itself to a nice meditation on the mediating role of humanity and its relationship with the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms, even the stars - isn't Virgo related to digestion? I've of heard people who when urinating recite mantras while imagining their manifest and unmanifest afflictions being offered to karmic creditors in the underworld; these are then transformed into anything these creditors desire. Karmic debts are repaid and the practitioner's life is ransomed for a little longer. There is a lot to experiment with here and its all fascinating stuff. I remember seeing a documentary that set out to test the validity of homeopathy. A team of pharmacologists made the remedies in bulk using a range of impressive gadgets. Not surprisingly the remedies were found to be ineffective and the matter was settled - homeopathy was 'misguided. Cue patronizing homily and credits. The idea that the spiritual state and intention of the pharmacologists while making the remedies could also be an important factor wasn't considered. As alchemists say "Ora et labora!" All the best, Rex

>>The idea that the spiritual state and intention of the pharmacologists while making the remedies could also be an important factor wasn’t considered<< Oh boy don't get me started on the mechanistical attitude of modern medicine. But this isn't a new phenomenon at all. Blue Lobelia used to be used as a cure for syphilis in the 18th c., and was dropped in the 19th. At present only East European folk healers use it. The reason the medical professionals couldn't get it to work is - you need to pray over it first. Then it works. What an irony that the European movement which began all this ruthless pruning away of the metaphysical styled itself, "the enlightenment"! best, NN

Conscious Reception of FoodThis is also the essence of Bardon’s method of talisman and plant work, he being a healer. Chosing the sphere was subtle skill.
