Hi Everyone! I’m new to this forum. I have been a Taoist for about 1 year now. I left Catholicism about 3 years ago after I had several self induced Out-Of-Body experiences. This changed my whole perception of life and sent me off on a search for spiritual truth. I have done much research into several New Age and Eastern spiritual ways. After about 2 years of research I found Taoism fulfilled my deepest questions of life and spirituality. I also love how it places equal importance on Body, Mind and Spirit. I was also very excited to read that Astral Travel is part of Taoist practice. My primary interest is Taoist Alchemy. I have purchased many books/videos and i’m taking notes on the methods/approaches.
Everything I practice I’ve learned from books and videos. I mainly practice Lower Dan Tien Breathing in cross legged position and Standing pole. Lots of my books say that you must practice under a true master to really learn. I live in Kennesaw Georgia and there is no Taoist community here. lol. I would like to learn how to communicate with Celestial beings and/or Taoist spirits so that I can get better guidance in my Path. Is this something that is possible or recommended for someone at my level of experience? Are there any books or online guides( Taoist approach ) as to how I can open myself up to Celestial Being or Taoist Spirits? Your help is well appreciated. Thank you!
Christopher
January 2, 2006 at 9:32 am #9657In my opinion, I would suggest that you earn a lot of grounding techniques and “I am” protections”. It is all very well to connect to celestial beings however not all celestial beings have your best interests at heart. It is best to be strong in self.
Just for you totake note.
Take care
January 2, 2006 at 5:07 pm #9659Thank you Rainbowbear. I will read up and see how I can incorporate your suggestions into my practice. Do you know if there are any books that outline the dynamics and process behind Taoist Spirit communication?
January 2, 2006 at 6:40 pm #9661Taoist immortals who have ascended to the formless realms may have an easier time communicating with someone with a closer vibration to theirs. Channeling in Daoist spirits is not standard practice in the healing dao to the best of my knowledge, although I have received communications during practice about things to do. Whether this was an immortal or the collective intelligence of the qi field, or if there is even a difference, I am not sure.
A profound experience of communicating with spirit can be achieved by cultivating the virtue qualities of the five vital organ shen, first in the human body and then out into the intelligence of nature.
In order to build your earth shen, I would suggest to practice the six healing sounds, inner smile, microcosmic orbit, bone breathing and fusion.

I didn’t say that.Celestial guides are good for joining the many human clubs.
But like ancestors always eat their grandchildren. If you want to do them, yo will have to do them good.
‘free, yes, but only if you are very good’
Again not me.January 3, 2006 at 4:49 pm #9665Keeping careful notes of your dreams, even if they seem obscure or mundane, can lead naturally to receiving advice on practice, and serves as a sort of natural mind training for decoding deeper or subtler levels of mind. And like attracts like.
I agree with what Singing Ocean said about such communications maybe some of the time being more like messages culled from the collective chi field–there is a difference between tuning into ‘information at large’ and a live intelligence, but the mind tends to symbolize or dramatise, after the manner of dreams, even neutral information–which again is why the habit of recording dreams is good training.Simon
January 3, 2006 at 7:39 pm #9667So sorry, that is not something I am into. I just let it grow naturally. Other than doing neidan exercises and prayer I just wing it. Then I search for others of more knowledge to fix any deviations. (joke, but it usually does happen at some point)
Most people on this forum are very knowledgeable and very capable. I am sure they can give you that information with much more accuracy then me (what books to read)(I have tens of books that I was guided to get … most of them I have read only partially .. some all of the way, but basically life keeps me so busy that when I open the book, I am good for maybe an hour’s reading at most and then I am toast …. zzzzzzzz, I think the taiji teacher I had thought I read all the books I was collecting, never did, just took out the phrase or few pages I required at the time … never did read them all). I am kind of a lazy, good feeling soul. I feel my way around energetically, connect to white light/creator and ask for guidance. Trick has been deciphering truth from intrusion with the messages I receive back. I am getting better at it though, however this method of learning is not to be advised, unless of course you like getting your butt kicked and your fingers burnt A LOT, in the anology sense. It makes for a good, solid base but it also makes for a lot of pain also, especially when you are as stubborn as I am. It does make you heed your heart a little more gently though, and it does make you seek out your own truth a little more energeticly – faster – eventually …. once you get past the jackass routine (being stubborn).
Anyways …. smart thing to do … just ask as you are doing. Get a lot of answers …. read all the answers, gel them together, take what you want from them …. then dive in.
Happy New Year!
Love
RainbowbearJanuary 3, 2006 at 10:26 pm #9669Christopher,
Welcome to the forum!
Like you, I felt that Taoist stuff was right up my alley and way of understanding.
If you primary interest is in Taoist Alchemy then you have come to a good place here. The Healing Tao practices can help provide you with practical ways to pursue this further.
Regarding the astral, my perspective is that it is not the purpose of the practice. The purpose is to find Source within. Although all these cool astral things might initially attract one into a practice, it is not where these practices are designed to leave you.
I studied from books and tapes from Master Chia and Michael Winn. I recommend them both as well as doing a retreat or two or more along the way if you can swing it.
I started on my practice with zazen and qigong and then after six months found Healing Tao and studied and practiced the formulas. For which I am eternally thankful 🙂 The experiences have been beyond words!
I hope that is helpful to you and best wishes on your journey!
Matt

I’m a little confused with you statements. If you are not saying what is in single quotes then who did? And what do you mean by
“Celestial guides are good for joining the many human clubs.
But like ancestors always eat their grandchildren. ”
Thanks.January 12, 2006 at 7:56 am #9673The true connection of substance is not the name.
Name is a plug-in from ancestral line.
Some say it is an implant.
Had they failed to implant it, that would cause difficulty in accessing ‘me’, when intent would not be alligned with characted/destiny of ‘me’.
So it truely is difficult to say who did it. But you got the feeling. You master your relationship to any body either in free heart or in closed heart. This is created state.
Anything inbetween and ‘you’ are ‘had’. -
