I am new to Qigong and seeking advice for a beginner. Anyone have experience with Primordial Qigong or Qigong Fundamentals 1? Of the two programs,is one more suitable for beginning Qigong training? Advantages/disadvantages of each program for a beginner? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Primordial Qigong is a complete taichi-like form, you can explore this form for a lifetime, if you enjoy movement and relaxation it’s a great choice. Qigong fundamentals 1 is a foundation practice, it’s not a complete form like primordial, it’s the begining, foundational level – this is where most people start. Although you could start with just the primordial qigong, I would say that getting the basics down (such as the 6 healing sounds/animal frolics in fundamentals 1 and the microcosmic orbit in fundamentals 2) would greatly improve the effectiveness of primordial qigong (in fact all the practices up to the higher levels complement primordial qigong and visa versa)…
I guess you just have to decide what you want to start doing qigong for… if you want to progress up to the higher levels then you must start with the fundamentals. Primordial qigong is a stand-alone practice, it’s of benefit to everyone from the beginners to the most advanced practitioners (from what I can tell) and I personally highly recomend it.
I would say that if you’re serious about starting a qigong practice get fundamentals 1&2, practice them for a few months and if you like em get primordial qigong along with the other fundamentals.
These are just my oppinions, I hope you get some more helpfull tips from the others.
p.s. welcome!
January 19, 2006 at 12:10 am #9893Primordial qigong is a great form in that it alchemically combines the consciousness of the 7 directions in a vast spiral back into the source.
The qigong fundamentals forms are also important in that they open up your energy body to recieve and communicate with a more integrated field. establishing communication with the intelligence of the five shen is an important step that is often left out of qigong forms that focus on opening up the channels. I agree with freeform in that the fundamentals are the foundation for deeper and higher alchemical practice.
January 20, 2006 at 12:40 am #9895I would like to say that I have been practising the Hunyuan System Primordial Qigong created by Feng Zhiquiang, for 6 years. I have tried some others but why leave something that is great. Works wonders for me on all levels. Amazing really.
For me I have just added some grounding technique from Jerry Johnson’s Medical Qigong text and some white light protection at the very beginning and then do a little taiji ruler circuit to correct any deviations I may have created with any monkey mind I may have not settled down beforehand.
This works very well …. for me anyways.
And I also do some mantra that Michael Woods from Tennessee taught me. Now that is an incredible man. I respect him immensely. Shares what he knows freely and he knows a lot. A student of Jerry Johnson’s and also a master in his own right. He has helped me with clear many of my issues that have risen to be healed with the Primordial ….. even by phone yet… from Tennessee to Canada. Michael has a mantra that will knock your socks off. It works so well. Perfect recipe.
Anyways, if anyone gets a chance to train with Michael Woods or Jerry Johnson … go for it … you will not be sorry. As with Michael Winn, they are the real thing. I greatly respect them all.
Rainbows!
