I love hearing from you! Inside Chi Flows Naturally: Fall Equinox is an exquisite balance point in our planetary cycle. After 3 months of the chi of summer descending (lesser yin), it prepares to dip below and sink deep into the earth (great yin of Winter Solstice). See below for Equinox concert & meditation on Sept. 23, and special Full Moon + Winter Solstice ceremony planned on Dec. 10. The Dec. 21 event is cancelled.
Dear Lovers of Effortless Flow,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer, even if it includes some emotional turbulence from Mother Nature in the form of earthquakes and hurricanes. It seems to be our collective experience at this time to be blessed with a speeding up of our lives, on both the personal and collective level of destiny.
I suspect more dramatic earth changes are still coming – a great opportunity to open our hearts even wider. And wise to store a few months supply of food, to smooth out the possible economic and climactic dramas that may be playing at your local theatre. Rapid changes don’t always feel like a blessing; for that we need the luminous realization known as “hindsight”. I feel the greatest challenge for a Taoist cultivator is to embrace Change while it is still in its subtle energy stage, BEFORE it arrives full blown into the world of physical forms.
Once Change takes physical form, the most effective strategy is to simply accept it 100% (virtue of the Inner Smile practice). But the highest art and skill of Taoist chi cultivation is to shape the Life Force (Qi) at the stage when it is still “soft” enough to be easily directed by our qigong or inner alchemy process. I believe qigong and inner alchemy involve a process similar to what some call “co-creation”. We don’t actually “create” the Life Flow, but we can help its flow and creatively transform it. The main challenge is our degree of clarity, and having methods for shaping the never-ending process of Change. Qigong works with aligning breath, posture, movement, sensing and intention to guidemanifest chi flow in our body. Inner alchemy works by balancing hidden polarities to open up a third neutral force that generates higher possibilities of freedom, in many dimensions. Alchemy taps into the unmanifest chi field. The results of highly focused qigong and inner alchemy are usually tangible and immediate.
My personal reward for the huge job of organizing summer retreats and seminars year round is seeing the immediate benefits that people feel, and take home with them. Enjoy a small sample of photos from this summer’s retreats at Mars Hill, near Asheville, N.C. Our new retreat site worked out beautifully, and the pathway has been cleared for even more folks to come next summer. We also had nearly 100 people show up for Mantak Chia’s seminar in Asheville, as the kickoff to our summer of chi fun. The retreats for next year are tentatively scheduled for 5 weeks beginning Friday June 22, and ending Sunday July 22, 2012. Exact retreats will be posted as soon as all the instructors have finalized their plans. We gave out a record number of scholarships to help folks through these challenging economic times. Talk to our registrar if you need assistance.
The spring schedule of events and dates China Dream Trip 2012 are also posted below, in advance of the full update being posted on the website.
The China Dream Trip in the Year of the Dragon promises to be especially powerful – stay tuned for special announcements about this! Love, chi, and blessings on Your Way, Michael

The bucolic campus on Mars Hill, with the Blue Ridge mountains forming a natural protective cauldron. Our residence halls were on the edge of the forest, and we had wild foxes sniffing out the chi left behind by our early morning qigong practice.
Campus classroom facilities are modern and integrated with the Blue Ridge mountain environment. Here a Kan & Li (Water & Fire) alchemy group uses the circular architecture to create an energetic cauldron.

She begins by gathering dew from the grass to refresh the skin and absorb its pure essence into our jing (sexual-body nature). Mark your calendar for next summer’s retreats! Autumn Equinox Crystal Bowl Concert/Meditation Fri. Sept. 23
Fall Equinox can be mapped by putting an 8 foot pole into the earth and marking its shadow each day (image above is the result, with a cool yin-yang symbol formed).
Friday, Sept. 23, 7:30 pm YOU are invited to my home for a special Fall Equinox crystal bowl concert by Kate Beloved (her spiritual name), who integrates sound harmonics and primordial qigong in her own unique teaching. The concert will be followed by a ceremony to Let Go of all resistance to each of us fulfilling our destiny. Autumn is dominated by the metal element, useful in cutting away whatever is not needed so that truth can grow in our lives.
For those who wish to stay after the concert and ceremony, there will be 2 one hour meditation sessions, followed by refreshments. Attendance is free. Email me for directions, RSVP is appreciated in any case.
Note on WINTER SOLSTICE CHANGE:
YOU are also invited to attend a ceremony and meditation at my home on the “hidden power point” of the Full Moon before the Winter Solstice. This means we’re re-scheduling the Dec. 21 event to Sat. December 10, from 7:30 pm on. Please note on your calendar – as this will be doubly powerful, capturing the conjunction of the lunar and solar cycles at a peak point.
China Dream Trip dates 2012
2010 China Dream Tripper Alison Downey absorbs the “Dragon Qi” atop the Great Wall. 2012 will be the Year of the Dragon and an especially poweful time to do qigong atop the Great Wall.
My brother Steven and myself meditate in the inner sanctum of the Lu Dongbin temple at Louguantai, near the pass where Lao Tzu transmitted the Tao Te Ching. “Ancestor Lu” is considered as the patron saint of Taoist internal alchemy.
The 2012 Year of the Dragon China Dream Trip will be extra special. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to finally go to China, this is a good one!
I will be sending out a detailed daily itinerary by the end of September that will include an extra week option in the caves and monasteries atop Mt. Hua (Flower Mountain).
There will also be a special announcement about a once-in-a-lifetime ceremony I am arranging that involves teams of Taoist Immortals atop Mt. Hua and a special consecration of alchemical yin-yang energies and the immortalization of Love.
Flying Crane atop Mt. Hua. Training for my future ascension….:)

• Sept. 23, Friday, 7:30 – 9:30 or later if staying for meditation. Crystal Bowl Concert + Fall Equinox Ceremony & Meditation
At my home in Asheville.
• Oct. 14, 2011 (Fri. eve. 7:30 – 9:30 pm): Asheville, N.C. INNER SMILE: Free Evening Meditation & Talk with Michael Winn.
Location: Lighten Up Yoga. No pre-registration required, FREE to all. This evening is part of the weekend workshop, even though it is open to the public. We will mostly smile together silently, relax from the “heart-mind” (xin) level of smiling in the body until the deeper “inner heart” or soul (ling) level of smiling spontaneously arises. I will facilitate this with a transmission of that frequency of unconditional acceptance at the soul level. This is a simple, fun, and powerful evening. The Inner Smile is the Alpha and Omega, beginning foundation and highest end practice of the Tao.
• Oct. 15 – 16, 2011 (Sat/Sun): Asheville, N.C. MEDICAL & SPIRITUAL QIGONG FUNDAMENTALS 1 & 2
Day 1: Inner Smile, Five Animals Qigong, Six Healing Sounds, Taoist qigong & alchemy theory. Visit http://www.healingdao.com/ckf1.html#top (Fundamentals 1 page with full benefits & description of practices, testimonials, etc.)
Day 2: Guided Micro-Cosmic Orbit. This famous Tao meditation unifies all energy centers/chakras into a flowing whole. Process is made simple and physically tangible with the powerful “Open Qi (Chi) Flow in the Orbit” movement qigong. Chi transmission is given to help you open chi flow spiraling in an orbit around your torso.
Includes oral transmission of the powerful Wudang Mountain “Red Dragon” internal method of circulating the orbit (NOT taught in standard Healing Tao curriculum). THIS IS THE MOST POWERFUL & EFFECTIVE ORBIT METHOD I’VE FOUND – during my 30 years search.
Good for self healing, spiritual centering and balance of all yin-yang meridians of body, and balancing blood and chi. The orbit is also the main pathway used for cultivating spiritualized sexual energy as you progress in your practice. More info on Fundamentals 2: http://www.healingdao.com/ckf2.html
These two days are packed with powerful practices that can make major shifts in your health and energy level. They are Lifetime Treasures, simple enough to easily share with family and friends.
Open to everyone. This course is THE main pre-requisite to Fusion, Healing Love, Kan & Li. This is the best course to begin with, but suitable for advanced adepts wishing to go deeper.
• Nov. 12 – 13, 2011 (Sat/Sun): Asheville, N.C. PRIMORDIAL QIGONG / TAI CHI for ENLIGHTENMENT with Feldenkrais for Effortless Super Learning.
Led by Michael, plus recorded guidance by Joyce Gayheart.
Note: The course is the certification course for Wuji Gong/Tai Chi for Enlightenment. You receive a teaching certificate from Healing Tao University. Those seeking certification should have been practicing the form well in advance. Email if you have questions. This course also now counts towards certification as a Healing Tao instructor.
• Dec. 3 – 4, 2011 (Sat/Sun) Asheville, N.C. MEDICAL & SPIRITUAL QIGONG FUNDAMENTALS 3 & 4: Internal Chi Breathing and Bone Rooting
Learn the 3 types of Taoist breathing: natural, reverse, and counter-force. Powerful “empty” or neutral force breathing method can be done anywhere, standing, sitting, lying. Opens belly center/dantien, the key to good chi circulation and self-healing. Standing and moving postures to open core channels of body. My simplified version of Iron Shirt Qigong.
We will also learn the Ocean, Sky, & Great Heart Breathing: Blissful Breathing Qigong. This form activates the Mystical Power of Three, that unites physical breath with subtle body breath in all three dantian. A short 5-minute form that packs a tremendous wallop. Day 2 focuses on bone marrow breathing, rooting power, and simple bone-to-bone tapping. Excellent for grounding, preventing & healing chronic illness due to blood deficiency, osteoporosis, and many others. Stabilizes stillness for meditators, develops root for all movement artists (dance or martial arts). This bone work is the prelude to completing bloodline ancestral issues. See http://www.healingdao.com/ckf3.html for more details.
Open to all, no prerequisites. Useful to have Fundamentals 1&2, but they can be taken in reverse order as well. Cost: $144. weekend. $90. for Sat. only, or reviewers (both days).
