Hello Howdy:
Chinese culture and philosophies often communicate in poetic ways, often in metaphor. Serious practitioners are trained in three dimensions: physical, mental and spiritual. I would like to offer some thoughts on your questions.
QUESTION I have read Taoist books which all urge the development of the light in the original cavity…[Read more]

Do you think the descriptions of the formulas were written two thousand years ago? Or that those formulas existed then? These are written by modern people.

Hello zentao:
Interesting question. There are many traditions of Taoists, some indigenous, some are combinations of shaman, confucian, buddhist and every variation of them. I do not believe you will find one definitive answer that all traditions agree on. Indigenous chinese and early shaman believe the living and dead exist simultaneous, and…[Read more]

Hello Adel:
I feel Lao Zi is the guiding work for us, we don’t really need much more. It can be applied to qi gong, nei gong, tai chi, etc. Fear relates to the kidneys and the kidneys do not like cold. Maybe you can explore what “freezes” you up and try to warm it up to allow the kidneys to transform from frozen water to fluid flowing water. I…[Read more]

Hello Adel:
The idea the shen or souls can disperse at death is not an agreed upon toast view. You will see no reference to this from Lao Zi or Chuang Zi. Only certain traditions believe in this or promote this and they believe a lot of other things that some ignore, they take what they want from every tradition and construct their own…[Read more]

Hello Zentao:
I am very familiar with Seung Sahn. He was very clear, a wonderful teacher. From my experience Chan/Zen is about our direct experience, what we know at this current moment. What we feel, smell, taste and hear, this is life, this is the tao. When we understand the things that take us away from this experience we polarize. Strip all…[Read more]

I understand what you are saying and agree to a degree.
I think there is too much emphasis on free will and not free will, it has its purpose. That model still locks one into a certain way of living. I am pointing to a place inside all of us where our innate intelligence know what to do and how to respond. Ego and will is a tool of this aspect…[Read more]

Not unlike the distinction you are making
between my use and your use of the word “mind”. ๐>>>If one can ask the question, which judgements am I forming,

Our mind (depends how is is understood) is more that our thoughts and the intellect process. Tao and Chan is a lot about how we observe, smell, feel, hear. Can we shift our awareness to them without judgement, without the conscious forcing to create something? Lao Zi clearly presents: to create distinctions is the root of much of humanities…[Read more]
