After finally reading this whole posting, years later, here are a few observations:
1) I think a more total view on human sexuality is needed here — one that takes into account the differences between gender roles, the body (hormones and genitalia), and sexual orientation.
2) Some tools to do this could be psychological, including classic Freudian analytic theory as well as the psychological typology of masculine and feminine.
3) Another really interesting tool could be Integral theory. David Deida’s work is useful. Check out: (http://integrallife.com/contributors/david-deida). There are definitely energies to why we desire or have fantasies about certain sexual acts. I think it’s interesting to explore these in a more integral way.
Overall, our sexual selves are a constellation of many things. I like Deida’s task of trying to figure out our most natural sexual development and to cultivate this in all areas of life.

I’m very much into Integral theory, and also daoist meditation practice. I’d love to hear how you approach the two together.
