This is from Chogyal Namkhai Norbu`s book “The Crystal and the Way of Light”. Great book by the way.
Near the cave of Milarepa there lived a very scholarly Tibetan monk who saw himself as being very intelligent. He believed he could overcome everything with intellect, but the strange thing was that everyone went to recieve teachings from Milarepa who had never studied anything, and no one came to see this monk.
The monk was very jealous, and went to see Milarepa to debate with him. He wanted to expose him with a few well-chosen words of argument, so he asked: “Is space material or immaterial?”. Milarepa replied: “It`s material.” The monk thought to himself: “Now I`ve shown him up as a complete idiot!” and was preparingto debate some more in the same way, when Milarepa picked up a stick and began banging on empty space as if it were drum.
The monk then asked: “Is rock material or immaterial?” Milarepa replied by passing his hand through a rock. The amazed monk became his disciple.
I think it`s a nice “story”, and that everyone here could get something from it…
Intellect may be less charismatic than snake oil but ultimately gets you further
Where did you get that he was a black magic vampire? As far as I remember, he did learn magic of some sorts, but later repented, and had to do many hard things for Marpa because of it (and other stuff of course).
I think intellect can get you far, but it has it`s limits… And I also think that intellect cannot comprehend everything.
