There was a flourishing sea trade out of Hong Kong and other Chinese ports for a start. Then there was the helplessness and apathy of the governments in that area. China was gradually breaking apart into civil war and Hong Kong had so much sea traffic that it was impossible for the British to police. A large number of pirates operated out of Bias Bay although there pirates on most navigable rivers and the pirates also kept a network of operatives and informants on all the mainland ports. Corruption was endemic and the pirates were always able to keep one step ahead of the authorities.
Into this shuffled Aleko E Lilius, an American journalist born in Russia who grew up in Finland. In the spirit of Hemingway (and probably Daniel Defoe) he was looking for good copy – lurid accounts of piracy and murder.

You gotta fight your right to practice qigong and yoga!
If one is seriously interested about hermit practice various preparations are necessary.
So most important ninja skills are not martial arts, but tracking, stealth movement and survival (findind water, foodstuff and shelter, making primitive tools, igniting a fire and so on…).
There are so many practices (beside from Healing tao) which take immense time to master that special preparations are necessary.

During the past dispensations of partial understanding, your priests and prophets failed clearly to differentiate between Planetary Princes, System Sovereigns, Constellation Fathers, Creator Sons, Superuniverse Rulers, the Supreme Being, and the Universal Father. Many of the messages of subordinate personalities, such as Life Carriers and various orders of angels, have been, in your records, presented as coming from God himself. Urantian religious thought still confuses the associate personalities of Deity with the Universal Father himself, so that all are included under one appellation.
-THE URANTIA BOOKIn brief, negative theology is an attempt to achieve unity with the Divine Good through discernment, gaining knowledge of what God is not (apophasis), rather than by describing what God is. The apophatic tradition is often, though not always, allied with the approach of mysticism, which focuses on a spontaneous or cultivated individual experience of the divine reality beyond the realm of ordinary perception, an experience often unmediated by the structures of traditional organized religion or the conditioned role-playing and learned defensive behavior of the outer man.
-WIKIPEDIA about apophatic theology (Tao Te Ching has same approach)John Carter is a fictional character, created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, who appears in the Barsoom series of novels. Though actually a Virginian from Earth and a visitor to Mars, he is often referred to as “John Carter of Mars” in reference to the general setting in which his deeds are recorded, in the time-honored tradition of other heroes (such as Lawrence of Arabia). The character is an enduring one and has appeared in various media following his 1912 sesialized debut.
-WIKIPEDIA about Edgar Rice Burroughs’ original hero of his Barsoom novel series.I’m somehow sorry if picture below comes through, but it seems to be like Edgar Rice Burroughs’s vision of Barsoomian clothing.
I haven’t yet read Richard S. Omura’s book, but I think I will choose to ignore, if not terminally (never say never again), but at least for a moment, all this spiritual stuff and stick to via negativa (neti, neti).
Even speaking or visualizing dragons has suffered some kind of inflation, beacause of Tolkien dragons, Mortal Kombat dragons etc. I remember few years back I had sometimes conversation with other guy who was studying in same department in University of Helsinki. He is completely down to earth married guy who had almost finished his Middle Asian language and cultural studies and he now works for Finnish foreign police as translator. What was disturbing was that he spoke about God (he is almost fanatic Orthodox christian), Satan, Devil and demons like these would be part of empiric reality for all. If one takes such things too seriously for too long it can develope into false consciousness in my opinion.
I also think that archaic Taoist books as translations are not OK, first of all Charles Luk version of Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality, which is anyway special and quite recently written.
Dragons are very real, but I will try to not to let them attach to this or that kind of symbolic creation.

November 18, 2011 at 12:55 am #38020A two-dimensional cylinder is easy to visualize, but nine-dimensional space with six dimensions wrapped up into some kind of six-dimensional tiny space is beyond anyone’s powers of visualization. But making pictures in your head or on paper is not the only way to understand the mind-boggling six-dimensional geometry of string theory.
-LEONARD SUSSKIND, The Cosmic LandscapeHe said that the most effective strategy was worked out by the seers of the Conquest, the unquestionable masters of stalking. It consists of six elements that interplay with one another. Five of them are called the attributes of warriorship: control, discipline, forbearance, timing, and will. They pertain to the warrior who is fighting to lose self-importance. The sixth element, which is perhaps the most important of all, pertains to the outside world and is called petty tyrant.
-CARLOS CASTANEDA, The Fire from WithinGirolamo Gardano was born in Pavia, Lombardy in 1501, the illegitimate child of lawyer friend of Leonardo Da Vinci. He arguably contributed even more to science than Da Vinci. The driveshaft of your car employs a pivoting joint that allows rotary power to be transmitted at an angle. This joint is known as Cardan joint in honour of its inventor. Cardano also published more than a hundred books that ranged across mathematics, natural sciences, medicine, engineering, and philosophy. It was he who came up with the mechanical gimbal that made high-speed printing possible. He also originated study of probability-largely because of his interest in gambling. Perhaps most impressively, he developed the concept of imaginary numbers, a vital part of the theories electromagnetism, quantum physics and relativity that were still hundreds of years away.
The year before he died, Cardano wrote an autobiography entitled The Book of My Life. It is an electrifying read and details his sexual conquests, his illnesses, his tragedies and-perhaps most enlightening of all-his modus operanti for scientific discovery. Cardano seems to have taken great delight in the assumption that this breakthroughs came from rational sources. ‘This form of knowledge is pleasing to the erudite, for they think it proceeds from great learning and practice, and on this account very many have judged me to be deeply devoted to study and possessed of a good memory when nothing is less true,’ he wrote.
The truth-in Cardano’s eyes, at least-is that his source was ‘the ministrations of my attendant spirit’. He was visited by familiar spirits, angels and demons, and took advice from them: ‘I have less rarely arrived at comprehension by a skilful treatment than I have been aided on many occasions by spiritual insight’. Cardano’s father, son and cousin were all certified lunatics. Cardano called himself lunatic. Perhaps we too would question his sanity. But the fact is that invisible, intagible, irrational sources can be an incredibly powerful source of discovery.
-MICHAEL BROOKS, Free RadicalsPerhaps the clearest statement I can make regarding the power of electrogenesis displayed by Chang Sifu is to say that it is most definitely not the result of electron flow. If it were, such electron movement could have been recorded as a potential or a current of some sort, and John would have been able to produce incandence in a lightbulb. Nevertheless, anyone coming into contact with this energy will swear that he feels an electric current passing through his body. In addition, this energy is thoroughly tranferrable through conductors (metal, water), but not through insulators. If this current is not due to electron flow, then what is causing it?
-KOSTA DANAOS, The Magus of JavaO puny man, heed ye my warning, seek not to break open the gate beyond. Few there are who have succeeded in passing the Barrier, to the greater twilit grotto that shines beyond. For know ye well, that the dwellers in the Abyss hunt souls like unto thine to hold in their thrall. Listen O man of clouded brain and heed ye my warning: move ye not in angles, but curved dimensions, and if while loose from thy body thou hearest the sound like the bay of hounds clamoring increasingly through thy being, retreat, if thou art nimble, to thy body through cycles and penetrate the veil no more!
-The Law of the Trapezoid (from Antor Szandor LaVey’s Satanic Rituals)As time passes demonic states will occur to the practiser in the form of visions of paradise in all its majesty with beautiful gardens and pools, or of hells with frightful demons with strange and awesome heads and faces constantly changing their hideous forms. if he is unable to banish these apparitions caused by the five aggregates as well as the visions of women and girls which disturb him, he must compose his heart (mind) which should be clear within and without. The correct method is not to see all that is visible nor hear all that is audible, but to concentrate intently on the inmost, to fix on the spot between them (the eyes) and to practice the seventh step (holding on to the centre to realise the oneness of heaven and earth) to drive vitality through the four cardinal points. This will remove all demonic hindrances instantly.
-TAOIST M. CHAO PI CH’EN, Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and ImmortalityParapsychologist David Luke forwarded me an interesting article entitled, “A Methodology for Studying Various Interpretations of the N,N-dimethyltryptamine-Induced Alternate Reality”. This article is by one Marko A. Rodriguez, and in this paper Mr. Rodriguez proposes an information theory experiment to test the autonomous nature of the DMT universe: having trippers ask DMT elves to calculate a prime factor of a 5-digit non-prime number (such as 12233), and then have the DMT elves relay the answer to the next tripper that happens along for verification. Can anyone see any problems with this experiment?
-JAMES L. KENT, To Catch a DMT Elf“Grandsons,” he began, “for the gift of oneness you must pass through four veils.” His hands moved softly in the air, painting the veils on an invisible canvas. From what I could tell, they were like curtains or weeds-fragile passageways separating four levels of consciousness, each one deeper than the one before. “You live now,” he said, “in the world of the first veil, the world of the altered.”
-TOM BROWN, JR. & BRANDT MORGAN, Tom Brown’s Field Guide to nature Observation and TrackingThe present stage of the universe, therefore, was ushered in by the “freezing” of the hot plasma into a collection of atoms less than a million years after the Big Bang, almost 15 billion years ago. For most matter this new atomic state was transitory, because soon after this freezing occurred, another natural process began. Under the influence of gravity, the expanding material began to come together in clumps. These aggregations would eventually form the galaxies. Within each clump the gravitational forces continued to operate, drawing large clouds of gases together into nebulae. Even as the the overall motion was universal expansion, matter was being drawn together on the local scale by the attractive force of gravity. When enough matter accumulated at a point, its combined gravitational pull attracted other matter in the vicinity, and and the addition of the new material increased the gravitational force and brought in still more . As the mass of the body (by now protostar) increased, the material was compressed and heated in in a sort of reserve replay of the expansion of the Big Bang, although this time the drama was played out on a local, rather than universal scale. Long before the temperatures at the center of the body reached the point where the fusion reaction could ignite to create a true star, atomic collisions had again become sufficiently violent to strip the atoms of their newly acquired electrons and recreate the plasma state. In a sense, that process of gravitational collapse and atomic destruction undid the process of atomic formation that had taken place in the transition to the final stage of Big Bang. As a result, most atoms possesses electrons for only a short period of time, perhaps less than a million years, between the moment at which the Big Bang had cooled off to where atoms could survive collisions and the time when those atoms were incorporated into still forming stars.
-JAMES S. TREFIL, The Moment of Creation>>if one has not embodied the principles of virtue and compassion, then
one has not truly embodied any practices beyond Fusion I, and are
therefore not doing Healing Dao except effectively at the stage of
the Fundamentals>>From the point of apostatic renunciation it’s not like this anyway, but maybe it is somehow too complicated matter and also not important.
Also Fusion practice or practice which is in the same direction doesn’t necessarily need these labelled positive emotions. It seems to be nothing else than analytic overlay and quite hypocritical one.
No wonder that Taoist traditionally (…Taoist scriptures are full of technical terms which seem very obscure and unintelligible even to students in China, for the authors did not intend to make the texts accessible to people of low spirituality or of questionable character, or to unbelievers and blasphemers-Lu Kuan Yu/ Charles Luk) have been so selective whom they teach.
