A great book I came across a while back: The Anchor Book of Chinese Poetry.
It’s excellent for the poetry from many eras, but it’s also good for having little bios of the poets, discussions of the eras. The interaction between poetry, the court, martial arts, taoism, buddhism, and confucianism, is all reflected there.Simon
