Hey there,
I hope these posts have been giving you a clearer idea of where you must go. I would like to put it simply here so you’ve got it. Then you can do something about your situation.
You have not mentioned that you have a regular meditation practice to rely on. This is essential because it is only in this space that you can process the psychological stuff you have. That stuff is at the root of your situation. Proper, non-coercive meditation will calm and stabilize all that energy.
Meditation done Daoist style is grounding- earth-centered. It is through your connection with the earth that these energies will be resolved. You have to work on your stuff, not focus on the sex. By itself, that is a distraction or an obsession.
Here, you say:
“I am spiritually curious about chi and have felt some amazing things at times when I had refrained from sex for a long time. I would like to venture in this territory and see how deep the rabbit hole goes. I believe it could lead me to a path of spiritual enlightenment. However, I am unable to do this because I am unable to figure out how to have sex without losing energy.”
This is happening because the universe is making sure you do NOT go down that path, but look for your resolve elsewhere. It is forcing you to come here and hear these suggestions from us about finding proper guidance, getting grounded, learning fundamentals….so that- your sexual energy gets properly handled. If you try to push into that “territory” willfully you will not have balance. That will be bad.
So I urge you to relax your focus on the sexual energy and look more holistically at your situation. Meditate, do the basics, work with your issues. Things will resolve themselves.
Blessings and happy practicing,
AlexanderJuly 20, 2007 at 11:11 pm #22985I want to thank you all so very much for all of your advice. It is honestly and sincerely appreciated.
I think I defenitely do need to take a more holistic approach to this issue.
I finished a 4 month course taught by one of Michael Winn’s students about 8 months ago. I really liked the meditation and some of the breathing techniques, but other things I wasn’t fond of. I just felt silly doing all the animal movements. I really like doing most all of the exercises, but I just don’t like pretending to be an animal. Is it ok if I skip that part of the online training course?
I have been practicing the microcosmic orbit for years now, but I feel like I’m not improving at all, which is why I came to this board. Perhaps it’s just slow going and hard to see.
You are all right though, I need to learn more and practice more of the fundamentals. I’m very interested in doing that. I think it will be good for me.
I’m just the kind of person that tends to look at cause and effect. I see myself losing energy when I have sex, so I think that I need to learn something about sex in order to change that. I think this logic makes sense to me. I do not think that I am obsessed with sex. I think sex is a beautiful part of our lives, and is a gift to be enjoyed. I’m just concerned about my health. I think that if I can learn how to keep myself from losing sexual energy, I will be more healthy both physically and spiritually.
I will order the online courses, start from the basics and work my way up. Thank you all so very much for all your help. Know that you have all honestly and truely helped me a great deal. Thanks again. ๐
July 21, 2007 at 2:40 am #22987I would go with the inner smile, six healing sounds and fusion as a basis and learn how to do standing postures. Keep it simple and earth-centered. I am always leary about trying to use the orbit to fix things. A little goes a long way when it is a spontaneous afterlude to the other practices. If you try to make it happen it will backfire. Focus on allowing and grounding. And definitely get personal guidance with both these practices and the psychological stuff that comes up. You have to recreate yourself and your thinking patterns, and it’s hard to see clearly from inside your own fog. You can do it. Remember to create a clear, holistic vision of how you want to be and feel. You will be “replacing” how you think and feel now with it but only if you practice all these things with utmost self-acceptance for how you are now.
Best, A

It may be a good idea to define Jing or Essence, with a clear definition it is clear what diminishes it.

July 24, 2007 at 9:37 pm #22991A few thoughts.
Amongst potential benefits, the main dangers of semen retention are stagnation and heat.
One of the Chinese medical views of asthma is that “the kidneys are failing to grasp the lung qi”, so you can’t breathe deeply easily, can’t catch your breath. The (healthy) energy of the lungs is cool and descending, and connects with kidney yin at the bottom of the inhale. If you’ve tinkered unskillfully with retention, it’s likely that your lower abdomen is tensed up and over-heated, the exact opposite conditions that the lung qi connects with most easily. Bottom line: it’s likely that your ill-informed experimentations with retention have made your asthma worse. It would behoove you to stop retention experimentation at this time, (though other qi gong might be beneficial) and see a doctor of Chinese medicine, to address any remedial condition.
I’m not a doctor, only an amateurish hobbyist. Maybe the above is just so obvious that no one thought to mention it. Anyone with the least training in Chinese medicine and qi gong would know this.
best of luck to you,
TrunkJuly 24, 2007 at 10:10 pm #22993I’m so glad you mentioned this to him, Trunk. I was hoping someone with the right terms would present the medical side about asthma. If he follows your advice, he would have a doorway to exploring the fear clench in those kidneys which is causing the inability to absorb the lung chi. -Alexander
July 24, 2007 at 10:35 pm #22995Thank you very much for that information. I had no idea.
I actually have felt a tightness in a spot above where my
left thigh meets my pelvis. I’ve always been curious to
ask what organ or whatever rests in that place. It’s about
4-5 inches down and to my left from my navel. Is that my
kidney? If I have a lot of sex, sometimes that spot hurts
from retaining semen. However, the real pain of it all is as follows. If I don’t
retain semen, my body tingles like crazy, my neck itches,
and it’s very annoying. It gets worse the more I ejaculate. If I retain semen, I feel tightness in that spot on my body,
but it isn’t nearly as annoying as the tingling. It rarely
ever gets painful. I’m guessing it is likely that I have
stagnation and too much heat as you said. However, The disadvantages of not living in China or Taiwan
is that I do not have a chi doctor readily at my disposal.
I have yearned for a teacher or for guidance on these issues
for 2 years now, but these kind of people don’t exactly grow on trees.
I have e-mailed and gotten in contact with a few supposed
“teachers”, and they taught me next to nothing on how to fix
my problem, while costing a lot of money.I would have no problem stopping my “novice” retention practices
if it weren’t for the annoying tingles. Any idea what it might
be? The tingling feeling of having little airbubbles under my skin?
Especially in the left side of my neck where my neck meets my shoulder?Thank you for your help.
July 25, 2007 at 1:16 pm #22997there is also the weakening of kidneys…
retention
then aroused selfpleasuring activities with vivid visualizing
this hurts the kidney adrenals(unskilled visualizing, that is; visualizing can be potentially good, but both sides to be vusualized, and at some point shifting from both of ‘them’ to stop time of now… or something; unless casting a spell; easy solution is also NO visualizing)
(generaly also: heart should heat the kidneys, not adrenals; that gives more staying power in living)
…
it is years long endevour and still without the perfect parfume ๐July 26, 2007 at 12:39 pm #22999Ok, so the situation is that you have no local resources. Given that there are no garuntees in life, and we’re all just getting along as best we can, here’s what I would recommend:
A combination of herbs, acupressure, and exercise (including qi gong).
Herbs
Call up either dragon herbs ( http://dragonherbs.com/ ) or the tea garden herbal emporium ( http://teagardenherbalemporium.com/ ) and ask to speak to one of their doctors. Tell them your situation, say that you’re looking for a long term remedy, answer any questions, get what they recommend (it should be one formula, or maybe two). Expect that you’ll get improvements, but that also you’ll be taking herbs for at least quite some months.Acupressure
Buy the CD version of a Manual of Acupuncture. It’s searchable. You can search for “asthma” and apply self-acupressure (not acupuncture) of various classical acupoint-combinations for asthma. (btw, the hardcover book is over at amazon.) Acupressure is very convenient and safe for us amateurs, and you’ll find that, over time, you’ll learn a lot and help yourself a lot with it – very inexpensively. It’ll not only assist you with specific maladies, but will help keep your channels open in general, will make your qi gong endeavors much more fruitful over the long haul.Exercise (and qi gong)
Whatever you decide to take up.best of luck,
Trunk -
