I always viewed the MCO as running energy up the SPINAL CORD (rather than disks/vertabra). I viewed the big draw as doing essentially the same thing.
Not sure where I got that idea. I’m not dogmatic about it. I mean, I view it as an energetic pathway, without exact correspondance to physical anatomy.
But you seem to be implying that the energetic pathway corresponds mostly to the vertabra and the discs, rather than the spinal cord. Yes?

I’d say that the anatomy implies a home-resonance relationship between jing and “stack of vertebral bodies & discs”, per chinese medicine and the jing-marrow connection. (I’m not sure yet.)
Which is interesting and curious to me.
Of course the post is autobiographical: I wasn’t clear about the anatomy of the spine, I was tending to hang out in the more dorsal aspects of spine. Now that I’m getting more clear about the anatomy, i’m surprised, curious, exploring. Like, right now, today.I can say that it feels good to shift the yi (and as a consequence, the jing-alchemy) into the spine-marrow.

It was all vague to me, but i felt the same way. .. not sure why.

February 23, 2005 at 5:57 pm #2909what others experience in this regard
(how the alchemy goes as you regard different aspects of spine)February 24, 2005 at 10:22 am #2911I’ve been experimenting a little more, and also considering your comments. For me, definately, there is something (very pleasurable) about running jing through the vertebral bodies. And it feels like marrow-washing to me (jing pulses through the spine, rich blood-fluid comes out, and i feel soothing nourishment, pleasure).
However, i don’t know how the channels correspond to this (orbit or other/s), maybe i’ll never know, and i’m not gonna worry about it too much.
As a result, i renamed the essay, took it out of the microcosmic section, and put it in the marrow washing section.

February 26, 2005 at 8:44 am #2913I only sometimes focus directly on the spine.
Usually I do the method I mentioned a while ago–focussing on the lower back of the head, which triggers a general rise in energy up the back and back sides of legs and arms. Sometimes this kind of bleeds deeper into the spine and often the heart chakra is triggered.
Well, and then I follow with the front by focusing on the hollow above the upper lip (is there a name for that?).
SimonFebruary 26, 2005 at 9:28 am #2915it is called “philtrum” in medical terminology & located in/on its middle is acupuncture point DU-26 on the Governing Vessel (DU MAI)…
February 26, 2005 at 9:32 am #2917Oh. Can you tell me a little more about this practice of concentrating on the back of the head?
February 26, 2005 at 8:23 pm #2919It’s very straightforward–steady attention on the lower back of head (and to a lesser extent neck and middle upper back), followed by steady attention on the upper lip but mainly on the philtrum (thanks). The ovelying intent I have is to move the energy along the microcosmic orbit where that includes arms and legs (back and front outside channels of same). I find that it all happens automatically and easily using this simple technique, which was taught to me in the dream state. I always follow and usually precede with focus on lower dantien. Probably it is not a particularly new approach, but it works for me.
SimonFebruary 26, 2005 at 10:03 pm #2921Thankx for the clarification Simon. Do you have a certain time you concentrate on each? And do you have any kind of idea why this works the way it does. Concentrating on the philtrum is connecting front & back channel, right?
thankx again

February 28, 2005 at 11:19 am #2923Generaly when cold water it flows through front of spine.
And when on fire, it flows skin level, more to the back.I have seen three pathways of MO:
skin at spine: most yang
spinal cord: ?
front (side)of vertabrae: most coolingBut then I learned ‘retention’ from osho sutras like
‘when wind blows, be like a leaf’, which is yin call for inward flow.
Had to learn the fire way.March 1, 2005 at 4:14 am #2925It doesn’t take long–a minute, a few minutes each. It depends on my overall state naturally. Sometimes it is very fast, and often the flow gets going and then seems to be better off with just “light maintenance”, where to intense/continuous of a concentration makes it feel too obsessively blissful or something like that, which also tends to be the point I switch to working with the dantiens or some other form of meditation.
Actually I don’t know precisely why it works the way it does for me, but I think it’s a mixture of those two points working well in combination/alternation in their connections to various channels, and of there being a particular overall or overarching intent; the two points are the fulcrum points from which I’m intending the orbit to happen.–“Concentrating on the philtrum is connecting front & back channel, right?”
Well, I begin with the philtrum but quickly include the upper lip and then often the chin, to be exact, so there are all kind of connections being made at the front and also the back with that point of concentration, and also the intent is broader than just two points of focus; you see, I’m following directions that are sort of “all there”, from a dream, which include a certain intent. It seems straighforward to me but perhaps it’s not. Mostly I think it is though; use those two points, and intend the orbit to happen, sensing the whole orbit and it’s direction, kind of thing.
