Hi,
This is my first post. I am SO glad I found this forum after reading several of Mantak Chia’s books and persevering with the 3 main exercises (inner smile, 6 healing sounds and microcosmic orbit) but having a million and one questions.
I’m a little confused by the different energies in the body. Could someobdy sumarise them please?
As far as I am aware:
The kidneys are the storehouse of primordial Qi, is this correct?
The testicles or ovaries store Jing chi, our sexual Qi — is this replenished from the primordial Qi supply? I don’t understand their relationship, to be honest.
The mircocosmic orbit is all energies circulating … or do they combine into a single Qi?
What energy are our emotions?
Here’s the biggie: HOW do we tell / feel the difference between the different energies? Somebody said that Jing Chi is slow moving.
If I practice the “cool / big draw” sexual practice, I arrive at this completely clear, wonderful state … but this energy doesn’t feel like the energy I experience when doing the microcosmic orbit. I’m confused by this, to be honest.
Thanks for your help

April 29, 2005 at 12:09 am #5176The energetic model that makes the most sense to me as far as transformation is concerned is the three energies of Jing, Qi and Shen. Michael uses the analogy of a msucial chord, where all three are happening simultaneously and made of the same “substance” but vibrating at different frequencies.
It is important to note that all of these frequencies are simultaneous with “physical reality”.
The Physical body is the slowest and most stepped down “solid” version of the Jing. It is the “printout” of the generative energy from the kidneys, the water element that drives sexuality and the will to be in a body and physical manifestation. In a way you could describe Jing as feeling like thick, liquid energy. Also more localised.
The Shen is an extremely fast frequency of purified tone/consciousness. This would correspond more to the pure virtue qualities that give birth to the feelings.
The Qi is the intermediary Frequency between the Jing and Shen. The feelings may be more associated with this vibration. When the feelings are conditioned into reactionary patterns, they become more like emotions that respond less spontaneously and more in predictable ways to outside actions.
It is important also to note that each of these levels has a yin, yang and yuan (neutral) aspect to them.

Are there any good reference books on the subject? I have just purchased Mantak Chia’s ‘Awaken Healing Light of the Tao’ which seems to have a lot more theory in it, but still appears to be quite geared towards practice. I’m wondering if there are any books about that cover these concepts so that I can get a better understanding of the spirit, soul, energy, the universe, afterlife… various stages of awakening / enlightenment, the void, etc.

The best insight is that your own connection to the lifeforce…no matter what names you give it…is the truest teacher. Yet, books are great too. I think Michael’s tapesets on the fundamentals is excellent. I continually refer back to them and am amazed at how much depth he puts into them. Mantak’s Awaken is chock full of good theory and practice. You could do worse. baba
