So apparently I just learned today that it is against
Michigan law to elect to go to a licensed acupuncturist
and get acupuncture WITHOUT first going to a standard
Western medical doctor . . . then telling this said
medical doctor that you have something wrong with you,
and then after his medical examination, he has to
approve acupuncture treatment for this problem and
then refer you to an acupuncturist.

You’d think that the fact that the person is licensed
would be good enough, but no . . .

Apparently only qigong and massage are the only
alternative therapies you can elect to do without
    “permission” from Western medicine.

The more liberated and self-empowered I get from
doing Healing Tao techniques, the more frustrated
I get with governmental intrusion trying to control me.

Attn Government: As long as I’m not harming anyone,
keep your nose out of my business.

๐Ÿ™‚ Shhh, do not tell them that practices for finding and strengthening inner guidance reduces the need for government (outer guidance). Ken Wilber’s view was that the core main difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Republicans argue for strong inner guidance and personal responsibility, Democrats argue for strong outer guidance. His view is that Buddha was a Republican or conservative if you like. :-)It is a little naive but I get his point.

Republicans LIKE TO BILL THEMSELVES as the party of
“small government” and like to try to seduce people
to their party by making scaring statements such as
    “Democrats want big government; Democrats want socialism;
    Democrats’ll tax ya”

But Republicans DON’T actually believe in governmental
    non-interference . . .

They are married to the Religious Right (who are religiously WRONG).
It’s a party that only favors white heterosexual Christian rich men.
Basically, anything not in the Bible they want forbidden. As a
consequence, here are the things I hate about the Republicans:

    1. Banned Stem-Cell Research

    (Religious Right interference)

    2. Against Gay Marriage and Gay Rights

(90% of barriers to gay rights are due to Republicans)

    3. Against having Abortion Legal.

(I’m not interested in having one, but I view it as
    personal rights issue.)

    4. Basically, if they can legislate MORALITY and restrict
personal liberties, they go for it. I want to give them
    the middle finger on this.

    5. They also are more likely to start pre-emptive wars and
attack other peoples. They are too in love with the WAR MACHINE.

    6. They are in bed with CORPORATIONS. If they can help corporations
turn a bigger profit at the expense of the individual, they go for it.
Consider Exxon-Mobil and Bush as an example.

    7. They are also typically very WEAK on ENVIRONMENTAL issues.
I want clean AIR, clear WATER, advances in GREEN issues that
help prevent pollution and waste. Note: None of these things
help PROFIT, so because of item #6, their environmental position
    is clear.

If you want to talk about expansion in the size of government, we
had one of the biggest expansions in government under President Bush.
He enacted all kinds of anti-terror laws, i.e. Patriot Act, etc.
designed to usurp constitutional rights, as well as interfering
in personal liberties, AS WELL as SPENDING money like crazy.
[Note: This isn’t limited to Bush, R. Reagan was a spend-a-holic also]

Granted, I’m not really pleased with the idea of Socialized Health Care
and Government Overspending that we have now under the watch
of the Democrats, but painting the Republicans as the
Champion of PERSONAL LIBERTY is simply not true.

In fact, as far as PERSONAL LIBERTY goes, you are far better off
with the Democrats who will increase your taxes to fund more
social programs . . . at least they aren’t doing the other things
I mentioned in the REPUBLICANS SUCK LIST.

Of course, this is the problem with the PARTIES.
They word says it all: A lot of brou-ha-ha with nothing helpful.
Unfortunately, we are stuck with them.

If we could get LIBERTARIANS into office, I’d vote for them.
They are for PERSONAL LIBERTIES and SMALL GOVERNMENT.

Unfortunately, in our two-party system, voting for them
means splitting your vote of dissent from the status quo
[this is the mathematical problem in any election scheme
where you have more than two choices].

Thus with the laundry-list of things I HATE about Republicans,
I’m not going to vote for them. I’d rather be anally raped by someone
wearing a condom made out of that “metal cheese-grater” material
than vote for them. So I guess I’m stuck voting for the Democrats
and bitching about the stuff they F*K UP.

Okay, bad mental images from that last post that I need to erase.

    Bad

    Bad.

As a canadian, I think that semi-socialized health care seems to actually work pretty well despite all the drug dealers masquerading as doctors.

One point you forgot to mention about the republicans (and probably democrats as well ) is world domination, through economics of course, and institutions like the IMF. Read “confessions of an economic hit man” for confirmation on this. I’m all for the trading of goods and services, but when people start trading on international currencies and destabilizing countries, then its an issue. Or maybe, there should just be international education about how to use the stock market to your best advantage so all the peasants in north korea can start buying out these wall street dudes that trade on packages of bad mortgages.

    >>>Okay, bad mental images from that last post that I need to erase.
    >>>Bad
    >>>Bad.

LOL. Sorry ๐Ÿ™‚ I made my point though, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    >>>As a canadian, I think that semi-socialized health care
    >>>seems to actually work pretty well despite all the
    >>>drug dealers masquerading as doctors.

The thing I worry about is that if health care is socialized
or semi-socialized, then I worry that our personal legal
choices for care could be limited even further than currently.
I worry about additional regulations that interfere with
my ability to my free choices. I worry about the quality
of care decreasing even further than the already dismal
    state it is in currently.

Granted, I don’t plan on using Western medicine unless forced,
but I want my options open. Moreover, I don’t want some
“authority” telling me that I can only seek treatment
    via some approved scheme.

I learned that I can’t trust the medical establishment to
make the right decisions for me. Here’s a story:

Three years ago, I got really sick with some strange flu.
Now normally, I just deal with such things myself, but
my temperature soared to 105degrees! It had been about
ten years or more since I had been sick like that. With
105degree temp, and feeling so dizzy I couldn’t stand, I
decided to have a friend take me to Emergency. BIG MISTAKE.
After an hour and a half of waiting, I was finally taken
into the back to the examination rooms. As I was being
lead into the examination room, there was tons of BLOODY
GAUZE PADS all over the bed/table. Seeing this, the
orderly said “OH, I’M SORRY. THEY DIDN’T CLEAN IT. Wait
outside the room in this chair. She put a folding chair
outside the entrance to the room and I sat there. Another
45 minutes go by, and staff continuing to walk past ignoring
me. Finally, someone stopped and asked me, “what are you
doing here? are you a patient?” They THEN had the room
cleaned and directed me inside. Another 10 minutes of
waiting, and a staff woman comes in and says they need
to take blood. She takes 6 vials of blood from my left arm.
She then says she needs my right arm. I say “why?”. She
says she needs to take MORE blood. I ask “why?”. She says
“THAT’S JUST HOW WE DO THINGS HERE.” She then starts taking
6 more vials of blood. After the 12th vial of blood, the
room started spinning and I passed out. When I opened my
eyes, the STUPID WOMAN was laughing at me. She said,
“oh, you probably fainted because of the thought of me
taking all that blood”. NO, I DIDN’T. It’s because I have
105degree fever, I’m already dizzy, and you took 12 vials
of blood from me. Anyone would pass out, you dumb bitch.
Then the doctor sees me and gives me Tylenol to bring my
fever down. After examining me, he then says that I
probably have a bad flu and I don’t need to get X-rayed,
and that he’s going to write a prescription for me . . .
and he’ll be back in 2 minutes. (What did they need the
12 vials of blood for, I wonder? To feed vampires?)

At any rate, he leaves. A minute later, a staff member
comes in, loads me onto a gurney, and tells me
“X-RAY wants to see you”. Wait a minute.
The doctor just told me that I DIDN’T NEED ONE. It
falls on deaf ears as I’m given 2 full chest X-rays.
I return to have the doctor give me my prescription.
To be honest, I’m lucky to have gotten out of that DEATH TRAP
alive. Since that time, I’ve been proactive at trying to
keep myself healthy by taking probiotics, Goji, etc. as
well as Healing Tao methods, etc. The LAST thing I want
to do is go to another hospital.

Point: I worry about increased demand on our
health care system due to socialization, when
the CURRENT system already can’t handle the patient volumes,
and the staff is already inept.

    What say you?

    Damn, that sounds AWFUL.

Where are they hiding those vampires anyway?

I think the ineptitude may be increased in for-profit institutions. I have never had blood drawn unless I was getting a blood test that I asked for.

I have been misdiagnosed by western doctors and given useless antibiotics but I just stopped taking the stuff after it did nothing, and the good thing was that I didn’t pay for any of it (doctors or medicine). On the other hand, I do pay a monthly charge to the government for medical, but which is less than if I got it through my work, and I rarely use it anyway (doctors or dentists).

The good thing about the medical system here on the west coast is that you can see an acupuncturist and charge it to your government medical. So “alternative” (to western) medicine is becoming more accepted here.

I think when it is socialized, there may be more effort towards prevention and a raised awareness towards health. They recently banned junk foods in schools (vending machines), and all school cafeterias now have to comply with healthier food choices (no fried foods etc.).

Yeah I was being polite to say Ken was being a little naive. But I got the subtle point that true conservatism is rooted in self cultivation and a return to a natural order. Yo-men farmers and artisan crafts men. Like the dreams of Jefferson and J.R. Tolken (of course updated). As for health care. For me to back it, we would need to keep it all in house. Of course that would mean no big pharma and no insurance. Eventually with out the influence of these institutions I imagine health care would look very different. Corporation are fighting the change people are looking your. People might just wake up and realize they are working for and pandering to the beast. Financial reform is also related. ๐Ÿ™‚

    @singing ocean:

    >>>Damn, that sounds AWFUL.

Exactly. *I* could practice medicine (with ZERO training/skills)
and better serve a patient than 1/2 of the worthless medical staff.
I could tell other stories from relatives and friends of their
experiences also, but I think I’ll leave it be for now. I think
my story alone paints a fairly accurate picture of the situation.

    >>>Where are they hiding those vampires anyway?

LOL. Probably hidden in plain sight, along with the Daoists and other
immortality seekers that the common man knows nothing of. ๐Ÿ™‚

    >>>I think the ineptitude may be increased . . . [stuff snipped]
    >>>. . . I think when it is socialized, there may be more
    >>>effort towards prevention and a raised awareness towards health.

You make some valid points. I guess it remains to be seen how
all this “health reform” that’s being debated in Washington
comes out of the wash. It’s certainly a big mess right now,
both in the debate and the actual current care. Nothing but a
    big debacle . . .

    @Dog

    >>>But I got the subtle point that true conservatism

    >>>Yo-men farmers and artisan crafts men.

The only way for this to happen is if somehow the hive mind can
break free of the vicious disease called CONSUMERISM. People
are too in love with being workaholics so that they can buy
crap they don’t need and pay for ongoing utilities whose
sole purpose is to allow them to continue to be workaholics.
Technological trinkets such as I-Pods, I-Phones, Blackberries,
    portable Hi-def TVs, etc . . . as well as other “Boy-toys”
for men such as expensive cars, snowmobiles, etc, AS WELL AS
similar other useless junk like jewelry and designer clothes for women.
It’s all useless crap basically. Costs a lot to buy; costs a lot
to maintain. We’re not humans; we are squirrels. Squirrels
looking for more nuts to add to our nutpile, for no other reason
than our purpose is to make the nutpile bigger . . . and waste
our time working to try to fill that purpose.
