Can any of you suggest an I Ching book that is insightful enough to allow the reader to understand how the commentary on the hexagrams flows out without getting to bogged down in Chinese. I have the Master Ni edition which is more like an encyclopedia and I have tried Karcher, but still find him a bit too “foreign”. Maybe I am asking too much for it to be well delivered to a westerner. I have found Michael’s brief expositions on the I Ching as it relates to Kan and Li and inner work fascinating and helpful. Anyway, Any ideas? baba
Baba,
If you are wanting to understand the applications of I Ching symbology to alchemy, the following resources start at the most simple and end with the most difficult:
1) Cultivating Stillness by Eva Wong
2) Harmonizing Yin and Yang by Eva Wond
3) The Numerology of the I Ching by Alfred Huang
4) The Taoist I Ching by Thomas Cleary
5) The Secret of Everlasting Life by Richard Bertschinger
Remember that these symbols just help the monkey-mind appreciate and enable the process of alchemy. Only feed the mind enough that it will allow your alchemy; don’t allow the mind to take over and make it all intellectual.
Enjoy!
Chris
The I Ching
An Illustrated Guide to the Chinese Classic of Changes
Illustrated by Tan Xiaochun
Translated by Koh Kok Kiang
This book (in cartoon style) gives modern illustrations and explanations that are the easiest way I have been able to find to understand it…
Good Luck!
Karcher recently released a new I Ching: Total i Ching.
The best I have found, brings out the shamanic element. See my review on amazon.
