Hello,
I am a little confused as to the meaning of the terms
“original chi” and “prenatal chi”.What I think I’ve got is prenatal chi is the chi that
comes together with the union of your parents when you
are conceived. This chi is “stored” in the kidney organ
as well as in the Yin Kidney system.Like a battery, prenatal chi can be emptied and when
completely depleted leads to kidney failure ie death. In both Master Chia and Michael Winn’s practices we can
increase the amount of prenatal chi by “building” up
the kidneys/Kidneys accumulating more original chi which
is a mixture of chi from the Three Forces, from food, air,
mo, etc..Master Chia sees us building up and then storing this
original chi in the lower dantien.Michael Winn sees that we can also breathe in more prenatal
chi from the Universe thru the Kidney point/Door of Life.
We don’t necessarily need to worry about storing it because
the Universe can store it all for us. Just breathing it in
recharges the batteries of the Kidneys. So, prenatal chi is in the kidneys as well as being the chi
that has not been polarized yet in the Universe (?) while
original chi is the chi that we accumulate in the lower
dantien (?).Any opinions, corrections, etc…greatly appreciated.
AdelFebruary 20, 2013 at 1:28 pm #40212Prenatal Qi is the Qi you got from your parents, the ancestral influence on you. Post-natal Qi is the quality and quantity of Qi you get from lifestyle. This can replenish/maintain the pre-natal level.
Original Qi, from my view point, is the Qi from other areas, like the stars, planets, environment, etc. we get from cultivation. It differs from post-natal in the sense it not from food, drink and regular exercise.
February 21, 2013 at 12:14 am #40214Thanks,
Much easier to understand now. What about Yuan Chi? My understanding
was that it was neutral in the sense that it is chi that has not
quite been polarized yet, but not totally neutral in the sense that
because it is in this plane (5 phase) that there has to be a certain
amount of polarization. (?)If you have an opinion,
Tks,

In the model they use here, they split the universe in at least two realms. Pre=heaven and Post-heaven, or Early and Later Heaven. They like to make correspondences between the two realms. In our life now. Yuan Chi is created all the time, it is the ming-men fire cooking Jing/Essence, which creates a steam, which is Yuan Qi. It is the Qi from Jing that is housed in the kidneys. It is believed we have a limited amount in our body at birth. A healthy person has enough for our allotted 100 years.
What some present here is there is a Yuan Qi (Original Qi) of nature, we can call this the early heaven realm. It is not in our body. And it is proposed we can access it and gather it to nourish and rejuvenate our body and sprit. And connecting to it connects us to this other realm. The quality of this Qi is non-polar or limited polarity. It can take any form, like a stem cell. In theory, it would be like Wu Ji, it can become anything.
In there view, they seek to connect to the other realm to support “growth” in this realm. This idea is part of indigenous Chinese culture, where there was ancestor worship and medicine. A goal was to communicate with the ancestors and appease the ancestors, which then will create auspicious harvests, fertility and longevity. So in the view here, they want to connect to immortals, beings, planets and stars, instead of ancestors, and connect to Qi, instead of the Gods we find in Taoism that follows this way.
Hope this helps.
