I have a friend’s friend who has been practicing qigong from books and has injured himself. I was wondering if anyone on the forum could give him any advice because his problem is quite unique and I can’t really figure it out.
He says he has been doing deep abdominal breathing in a very forceful way and all of a sudden he felt as if the qi left the dantian and he couldn’t feel it much there any more. Then, everytime he takes deep abdominal breaths, he hears, and I hear a kind of squishy noise like some fluid or something like that at about the left side of his solar plexus. Actually, at the whole left side of the thoracic diapragm pretty much. I think this is characerized as “shui-on” or soomething like that in Japanese.
He can’t take the cold, has diarrahea often, and he has a very hard time building qi up at the dantian. He cant put his focus on it as well, because he says it kind of scatters and is a very weak sensation. Also, he gets weak sensations of qi in his left leg, there is no pulsing in his left leg but there is in his right. From what I gather, he should just focus a warm feeling on his intestinal area and do light counter-clockwise massage on it. I’m guessing it’s an intestinal blockage because the whole problem started with dantian stagnation but I don’t want to give him the wrong advice because that might injure him more. If anyone can add any pointers I’ll be sure to tell him. Thanks.
Regards,

April 3, 2006 at 10:24 pm #12294I forgot to mention that he has been also stopping ejaculation with the finger method. I don’t know what to say, maybe he should go and find a TCM doctor, his problem is pretty serious. I don’t know of he should try chi nei tsang because that could make things worse.

April 4, 2006 at 4:41 am #12296OK, if it’s THAT bad, maybe chi nei tsang may be counter productive, especially if their is deep structural damage to delicate areas.
Like Trunk said, a good TCM doctor would be my first choice.
Herbs and accupuncture saved me from 10 months of burning balls when the qi was stuck in my epydidimis.
Most important, and I know it’s not easy when there is a jam up down there, but stress, frustration, worry make it 100 times worse by stagnating the qi flow.
Best, matApril 4, 2006 at 8:20 am #12298Well, I asked him how long he has been doing the finger method for, and he said he has been doing it for about 6 months now and he didn’t massage after doing it. Matblack, maybe you can tell me what your experience was with the epididymis and I can tell him. Of course, I will advise him to see a TCM doctor, but if anyone has any info about the finger method of semen retention, then I can advise him.
Thanks,
FajinApril 4, 2006 at 6:05 pm #12300Gee.. what books was the guy practicing from?
April 4, 2006 at 10:44 pm #12302Trunk,
I’m not really sure what books he practiced from, but I would like to help him out as he’s in a bit of a pickle. I think that the jing qi is stagnant and is somehow blocking his left leg. He says that he feels the right side of his sacrum as I told him about pulsing the sacrum.
He can pulse everything on the right side, even the bones in his right leg and right pelvis. But the jing blockage seems to be on the left and this seems to be blocking the liver, spleen, stomach, kidneys, gallbladder, and bladder qi from circulating in the left leg. Not completely, but mostly.
So, I’m guessing that the fluid stagnation in his stomach/spleen that I hear when he takes a deep abdominal breath, is because his stomach/spleen qi can’t circulate below the pelvis. He has a weak dantian due to this I think. Just wondering, maybe you know what he should do, like some massage or something to get the jing to unblock because I know that you’re the person to go to about these things. It would be of great help.
Thanks,
FajinApril 4, 2006 at 11:20 pm #12304First priority:
#1. Get him to a qualified dr of chinese medicine, asap. This is by far the top priority, and anything the doc says that nixes out anything I might say: go with the doc.
Thoughts that I have:
1. The tan tien has been traumatized, so anything you do directly to the tan tien has got to be super gentle. No direct physical manipulation, imo. Except maybe a warm heating pad. Only really gentle stuff like the inner smile, gentle breathing, maybe yi swallows qi. But don’t force any of it.
2. Massage of the arms and legs could help to run energy through the tan tien without touching it, and quite possibly could relieve some stagnation, free things up a bit.
3. Again, so important to see a dr of chinese medicine.
April 4, 2006 at 11:30 pm #12306I’ll tell him to go straight to a TCM doctor. Thanks for the advice, though it’s not for me, it’s for him!
Smiles away,
FajinApril 5, 2006 at 12:40 am #12308Are there any tips I can give him for clearing up jing stagnation. Does simply staying away from ejaculation help to clear up the stagnant jing. Or are there any other useful tips out there?
Thanks,
FajinApril 5, 2006 at 5:46 am #12310Fajian, my experience was this:
I got wacked in the nuts 3 times in 2 weeks playing sport. The trauma to the site caused pain, inflamation and swelling. ’cause of the subsequent wacks, it was trauma on top of trauma.
This combined with too much spicy food at the time (causing damp heat) made things extremelly hot, heavy and painful.
Accupuncture and herbs helped in a number of ways:
– by clearing heat
– clearing dampness
– moving qi (dissolving blockages)
– and maintaining qi flow
I caution to say exactly what herbs were used (unless you really want me to) ’cause the dosage, duration and combination are very specific for each individual.
But they and accupuncture worke beautifully by accessing the delicate areas ina very gentle way.
Again, can’t emphasise anough as Trunk said, a good TCM doctor should be able to help rectify the situation.
BTW, if you want, you can just call me mat. Black is my surname hence I used matblack as my sign in name for this discussion. Couldn’t think of anything better at the time.April 5, 2006 at 6:04 am #12312f> Are there any tips I can give him for clearing up jing stagnation. >
Actually, the tips that I already gave are appropriate for that (yi sw. chi, arm & leg acupressure). Dig through the IS1 section on my site, the post by Jampa re: palm & sole breathing. Getting the arms & legs running is really extraordinarily effective, and non-traumatic for your friend.
There are other things that are more vigorous, but I don’t thing they’d be appropriate for your friend at this point (bridges, ab.wheel, squats).
