A touchy question … why is it that the majority of senior healing tao instructors are either not certified to teach kan and li, or don’t teach it regularly (from looking at their websites)?
This is the basis of One Clouds system: there is only one formula for opening the channels and fusion, but five other formulas for cultivating communication with early and primordial heaven.
In my opinion, Kan and Li should be the central practice of the Healing Tao community. All senior instructors should take michael winn’s classes and/or share their own practice to strengthen the community. It seems like he is the only one that is innovating and promoting this area of practice. If they do not, then it will be only michael winn’s students that will be the vanguard of this practice in the future. This is fine, but the more people that practice it, the more humanity will benefit.
As Chen Yu Ming once said: “Nei Dan is the treasure of humanity”.
December 28, 2008 at 5:18 am #29900I know one of Chias formerly best students. S/he said s/he reached what
is reachable and left the Dao saying Chia is refusing to go further in his practice. S/he only teached as s/he was Chias student and the teachings where always very simple but s/he could do things i do not understand. My friend and i tried for long to get somekind of teachings out of him her…. closed doors. frustrating. S/he told my friend it is not her appointment to teach. At the moment we have lost complete track of himher.December 28, 2008 at 11:18 am #29902A touchy question … why is it that the majority of senior healing tao instructors are either not certified to teach kan and li, or don’t teach it regularly (from looking at their websites)?

I don’t think it is a touchy questions, i hope you will ask them and find out directly their feelings on this unfiltered.December 29, 2008 at 8:16 pm #29904You should e-mail them and ask, and then post the responses? I have my own guesses to why in a general since this is.
December 31, 2008 at 4:47 am #29906you have presented new ideas.
regarding formulas,
books do not include the first one.
at least i could no decipher it at the time of looking
http://www.healingtaoretreats.com/cgi-bin/tpost.pl?smessage=15165things should be simple. a norm.
as such the first formula should include next and all.
thus all can be explained through first formula.
so teaching only first is sufficient. though in time this ‘just first formula’ gets a lot of meaning.first formula. written in a ‘one hundred character tablet’ fashion.
part of the reason can be found in basic practice of alchemy. that is dubbed chi kung. light work is part of light-darkness equasion and such can put humans on a rollocoaster.
plus the independent master thing. though japanese did say that ronin is a sad life.http://www.healingtaoretreats.com/cgi-bin/tpost.pl?smessage=15165
January 7, 2009 at 11:41 pm #29908As others have said, you probably need to ask them directly.
Here are a few guesses on my part:
1. Demand
There’s much more demand I think for the first formula
classes. You have to be a relative devotee of the practices
to get to the Kan and Li level, and so you don’t have that
many students clamoring for those classes. They teach what
is in demand.2. Michael
After being a senior Healing Tao instructor, they become
colleagues with Michael. They then may feel uncomfortable
approaching Michael with certification for this reason, and
the only other certification option is Mantak Chia which
involves a trip to Thailand.3. Michael (again)
Since Michael is sort of the spokesperson for the Kan and Li’s
here in the USA, and since he has been such a dominant player,
they don’t want to appear as though they are competing with him.
They figure, “he’s gung-ho about it, so let him have at it and I’ll
do something else”.4. Other personal interest
Each instructor sort of finds their niche.
That’s the area they enjoy the most.
They’d rather teach that, then something else.
For instance, for Marie, it’s Tai Chi Qigong.
For Karin, it’s Chi Nei Tsang, etc.
I.E. They teach what they like the most.
I.E. Their prerogativeThese are, of course, just guesses.
You’d have to ask them directly to hear their personal feelings
on the matter, but I’d suspect that some of the above comes
into play.January 7, 2009 at 11:47 pm #29910What’s your opinion? 🙂
You don’t seem to hold back in your arguments with
“singing ocean” . . .S
January 13, 2009 at 1:21 pm #29912perhaps a new level of responsibility is taken on when one starts to teach Kan and Li, and not everyone may want to take that on.
March 20, 2009 at 11:31 am #29914I know one sr. teacher told me she regards michael’s innovations as ‘personal’ i.e. subjective and mantak chia’s as the original. I think I was to bewildered to respond as Chia has changed nearly everything at least once and often many, many times.
I was fortunate enough to first study kan and li with christer Ekstrom and minke deVos while on retreat at silent ground in 93. They got their transmission from doing zazen for 13 hrs a day and the alchemy literally exploded on them THEN they sought out chia to make sense of it.
Minke is now teaching with MW – so clearly she see’s his innovations as a natural progression.
personally – I think much of Chia’s methods are too fiery and [at least before he ‘introduced’ tao yin down-right dangerous unless opne had a solid connection with the body.
Chia had a few sources : white cloud, 2 iron shirt teachers and a healing love teacher, the rest was – as I understand martially oriented. MW has had chia and then he learned B.K.Frantzis water method and wisely softened up nearly everything.
Michael also provides a moving form for almost every level – chia not.
What Chia did is amazing – bring nei-tan and nei-gung to the west and teaching openly, but in my not so humble opinion, Minke and Michael are the cutting edge, due to greater balance of body emotions and mind.
Another thing that puzzles me bout Master Chia is that he seems to revise the forms based on what works for him – or what gets workshop results faster – neither to me are wise choices for revising practices.
Faster is rarely better and more complex often loses the essence. Compare Awaken Healing Energy [what I learned the smile and orbit from in 1985] and the newer awaken healing light…
If you make it your own it WILL change, the question is do you know why and can you transmit the right methods to your students.
March 20, 2009 at 11:35 am #29916by ‘right’ I mean appropriate for their level of development.
Sometimes teachers get so enthused by new developments they forget to let their students come along naturally.
I know I have done this and i saw MW in 2004 introduce the wutang orbit method to a beginner class – and one willfulyoung pup then did exactly what MW warned him not to [hold the spinning orbit pearl over the heart. MW understandably dressed him down after the kid tried to justify it…but really, as I told michael – save it for more advanced mature groups…at least fusion or maybe even lesser.
March 20, 2009 at 11:38 am #29918oh and one other reason
many teachers [I know Ron Diana [r.i.p.] was one of these – he did do ‘formulas’ at all.
In my and Minke’s experience it takes a minimum of an hour a day of meditation and around a 1/2 hr a day of movement to sustain the Kan and li process. How many h.tao instructors practice that often?
