Some time ago I felt I needed to relax my lower abdomen so I started working for it. Even though I’ve succeded in doing so, I’m having licking problems now. Can anyone give me some advice?

December 8, 2004 at 2:54 am #2284I am by no means the definitive answer to this one, but I think if this question relates to what happens in practice, and you feel that energy “leaks” into the ground there is only to possible reasons I can think of:
1. Check if you are relaxing or just spacing out. If you are more “inflating” yourself the shen will not collect and there will be a subjective energy drop to the ground because there is tension between the upper and lower jiao, and the shen will not induce any chi flow. The earth energy(yin) will not rise as quickly and you feel that it’s “leakinng”, although there is no leak. The only time you actually leak energy is when you stand and practice qigong when wet or barefoot on the ground.2.The relaxing of the abdomen is a long and complex process. There are so many layers of it, and sometimes there is alot of trapped yin chi that seeks downwards when you relax. This may feel like you are leaking, but what actally happens is that the real relaxation induces a sorting of the energy in the body. What belongs to the earth go down, what belongs to heaven go up. This only means that you are “emptying” yourself, through relaxing the most tense part of your body: the abdomen. The perineum is the lowest part of the torso where the polluted yin chi will collect.
PS: Posture:You may want to check your stance/spine/weight-distribution to see if you are standing correctly when practicing. If relaxing too much in the spine and knees while dropping the weight/abdomen you will feel like you are “leaking” too, because you will stop the energy from rising again.
To counter this, ideally have open knees, but not really bent knees, and lift your spine from the top of the head(like your body is hanging from a thin thread.Maybe you know this stuff already….

December 8, 2004 at 6:38 am #2286I would say microcosmic orbit. However I don’t really believe in leaking energy–I like Winn’s aiming at a core energy which, like in the buddist tradition, isn’t dependent upon an accumulation but is rather about tuning into it, getting past coarser layers.

December 8, 2004 at 4:55 pm #2294You could try working with the ming men/solar plexus chakra.
I find that working here–slow/calm/firm concentrative efforts with positive inner smile kind of emotional tone–tends to bring the energy up to that point and then naturally spreads it around and up. This is also considered to be an important storing point, and I find that it does seem to help in that kind of capacity, at the coarser level as it were, particularly with regard to storing or maybe more accurately “processing” excess sexual energy. Also promotes calm stable feeling, feeding the kidneys. Alternating between that and lower dantien, microcosmic, zen, could help with what you’re experiencing as problematic. Remember that relating to the Earth/earth energy is essentially a healthy thing; you could also try surrendering to the leaking, letting it all sink down, trusing that the Earth will give it back in a changed form; or you could use intent to perform the same–send down, draw up, type action.
