Hello,
I’m a little bit confused that there are some authors locating the middle tan tien in the solar plexus while the HT speaks of the heart. I know that you can’t give any precise physical location of these elixir fields but…
What’s the difference between the solar plexus and the heart in Taoist alchemy ? What is their use and how do they relate to the chi field ?
Merci in advance…

December 10, 2006 at 9:41 pm #19821In Daoist Alchemy as taught by M.Winn, the solar plexus resonates with the sun and moon, and the heart with the planets and sun. All of the different inner centers relate to different levels of the mind of nature.
December 11, 2006 at 3:00 pm #19823I though that the middle tan tien isn`t in the solar plexus and that it isn`t the physical heart. For me it is located (or is pierced by, don`t know how to say it) on the central column (forgot other name, if there is one lol), like other two tan tiens. Each one is on top of the other in a straight line, with the middle being in the area of the heart, but not the physical heart itself.
That`s at least my understanding….December 14, 2006 at 9:00 am #19825Yes, that’s my understang too… but there’s a lot of literature out there and without a good guide you are quickly confused ; so practice takes more time.
Thanks for the infos…

December 14, 2006 at 3:39 pm #19827heart is center when coupling head and gut
solar when coupling heart and gut
an interpretationas dan tiens their properties are not (five elements) elemental, rather somewhere between being here (postnatal, ching) and unbeing (wu and shen; prenatal or non)
it is michael course
a alternative description can be seen in ‘kriya yoga’ by swami sivananda
where every chakra is with many peatals
thus a dan tien with energy streams ‘like’ fusion
though many corresponding details and intent is differentDecember 27, 2006 at 4:06 pm #19829I actually follow the convention of the oldest alchemical text in China, the Yellow Court Canon.
The yellow or golden court is between the navel and the heart. It is the sun within the earth, ruled by the yellow planet Saturn/higher earth between the solar plexus and heart; hence the coupling of sun and moon a this center in the third formula, Greater Water & Fire. The center of the core channel at the heart level (not physical or emotional heart) is the middle dantian,
from which the sun rules over and harmonizes/invorates the five planets. These are subtle distinctions that only make sense if you have an internal practice capable of fusing and couopling these forces.
