Do people think it is really so bad to mix different styles of qigong? I would really like to do two different styles right now, but I have been warned against this. Any opinions?

Do you know what each is designed to accomplish, if they are in harmony with each other, its ok. If they are not in harmony or working on different things be careful, consult with someone about it.

My opinion is one should not be in a hurry with Qi GOng and cultivation, there is no rushing it, no matter how hard one tries.

my uninformed opinion: don’t hold yourself back. If you feel you want to pursue both forms in the moment just go ahead. My experience is that it very soon gets clear wether is it o.k. or not from your own intuition and results.
many times i feel teachers warn you about doing your own thing because they are playing a power game!

    Miso,

Generally I ask myself or advise people the following:

What is the theory and movement priniciples behind a given set? Is it for Martial Art or General Health or Stylized Qigong (forms). It’s always good to be clear of your objectives before investing in a certain style per say; If what you are doing is a couple different sets in the spirit lets say “general health” than thats fine. I feel its better to accomplish a specific set over a longer period of time that is easy to achieve for someone new. This will give you satisfaction and tangible Qi results, there are no overnight fast results.

Having some history on who it is from, what you are learning is crucial some sets are just junk and others are just the best thing you have ever seen; Most of the Qigong Healing Tao promotes are “stand alone” sets, meaning they are complete within themselves and are great routines to learn, feel & expierence energetic movement. But go with your gut feeling everyone is unique and whats correct for you might might be not for others.

Everyone has a view on set practice you will find your niche, once you have many hour and years of mileage in practice.

What sets are you considering to give a whirl together?
