I am twenty three years old and prescribed coumadin for life. I have a genetic disorder known as factor V leiden abnormality and s-protein dysfuction; therefore increasing my coagulation and putting me at risk for clots. I have a hx of DVT and Pulmonary Emboli. I have heard some things about Natokinese and liptokines however I do not know if in my case I can replace my coumadin with nato or lipto. If anyone can please give me any info they may have I would greatly appreciate it. If I am not going to make my situation worse by getting on nato or lipto then I will do it. I hate the thought of being on coumadin any longer. thanks

I would talk to my doctor and see if he/she thinks it will interfere with your coumadin. If not, give the nato a try — perhaps in conjunction with the medication and then gradually decrease the medication. Pay attention to your body and keep checking in with your doctor.
You are in an area with no clear answers looking for a solution. Which means you have to experiment — VERY CAREFULLY.
good luck.
October 30, 2005 at 4:30 pm #8223Do not try to adjust your coumadin dosage by yourself. Do not experiment with this. The results could be disastrous. You need a skilled practitioner helping you with this situation. I would contact a nutritional pharmacy such as http://www.willner.com or http://www.invitehealth.com.There are contact points on these sites. I would ask to speak with a pharmacist or nutritionist. Outline your situation. Get a referral. You are still young. This is the time to take action. Good luck.
