Hi guys,
new to the board and happy to be here.looking for some general opinion. I’ve been doing other styles of chi gung and the microcosmic orbit for about 6 months now – no big name lineage – but the orbit technique sounds similar to the one you guys do. The chi gung? I’m not so sure as I don’t know how Michael teaches it.
Been doing Vipassana which I would describe as similar to the water method(although after reading MIchael’s article perhaps the better name is the yin method). In any case 10 years on I’ve got a lot from Vipassana but there seem to be some holes. A lot of the MIchael’s articles make sense to me – much of it is a real eye opener. It’s a pity that my orignal teacher was so against mixing styles because quite frankly a lot has become clearer in the last 12 months since I started to “shop” around and get creative.
The information on fusion seems to fill in the gaps where many therapies that deal with emotions like NLP, EFT or Kinesiology miss.
My main question is that I’m interested in getting hold of the fusion 5 elements stuff. Money is a consideration of course – so with my rather rudimentary study in chi gung and the orbit do you think it would be alright to jump straight into it?
any opinions appreciated.
May 12, 2006 at 12:04 am #13995Hi Hugo,
We’re in the same boat. I’m kind of new here, about 2-3 months or so to the Healing Dao. I have a very powerful energy body from what I practice but I still don’t think I’m ready for Michael’s Fusion. The reason is because I don’t know how to form a pearl.
His Qigong Fundamentals #2 teaches you the secret Wudang Mountain Orbit of forming a pearl. So I’m going to do that and then go on to Fusion. I’m learning it presently. For you, I would suggest to do the same before heading onto Fusion and also to do his Qigong Fundamentals #1.
The reason being is that Fusion is an emotional alchemy and the inner smile and 6 healing sounds can be considered as prereuisites for Fusion. I would suggest getting Fundamentals 1 and 2 like I did then heading onto Fusion.
Fundamentals 1 for prerequisites in tranforming negative emotions and building positive emotions and Fundamentals 2 as a prerequisite for forming a pearl.
Also, I think it would be wise to build some groundedness prior to Fusion so I would go with Fundamentals 3 and 4, which advances on #’s 1 and 2. I asked Michael a similar question before and he told me that his material is more of a foundation than a beginner type. I would recommend doing them 1-2-3-4 order like me!!!
Smiles,
FajinMay 12, 2006 at 12:26 am #13997I think that Fajin makes some good comments.
On my fusion tapes Michael says that the risk is making Fusion into a video game where you are just visualizing colors moving around.
It is important to establish a communication link with your organs with the healing sounds. Develop the microcosmic orbit so you have a container for the increased energy that was previously wrapped up in the emotions. Get grounded so that you have a strong center to operate from.
Take what I say with a grain of salt however because I am by no means an expert in fusion. I have only played around with it a few times just to get a feel for it before the summer retreat at Tao Mountain.
May 12, 2006 at 3:58 am #13999Hi Hugo,
I agree completely with both Fajin and Hipster on doing groundwork first. Fusion is not the basis for the formulas that Michael teaches, the inner smile, microcosmic and six healing sounds are. If you do those for a while and build some fluidity by focussing on communicating with your organ spirits you will develop a way natural to who you are. Don’t not skip over anything. One level builds upon the next. Your body has to learn how to accomodate energy levels of increasing dimension and. Communication is the key. It is a relationship between you and You.
Michael has said over and over, and my personal experience bears this out, that the inner smile is the beginning and the end of the alchemical practices. If you get the feeling of this, and apply it gracefully as you go along, you will succeed, and a large part of why is that these practices are so organic that they have a life of their own and they show you how to go.
If you have found Michael’s writings to be “a real eye opener” that tells me that there are big pieces in it for you. I had the same experience. Confirmation and excitement about new doors opening.
I recommend that you learn the basics from a healing dao instructor, particularly Michael, in person. It will be easier to get the transmission this way and it will make it easier to follow tapes of later things. I did a lot of personal work with Michael and find it easy to follow along with him from a tape because my body understands his field and his words.Blessings and love,
AlexanderMay 12, 2006 at 4:23 am #14001I appreciate the advice guys. I’m in Australia and for some reason the link for instructors doesn’t seem to work for me so if in anyone knows anyone…what you guys have said about practicing the basics is solid advice. I’ve been practicing the inner smile and microcosmic orbit for about 6 months, the healing sounds only for about 1 week. In any case I feel great, it’s a lot easier to sit my mind in my lower abdomen now. With the microcosmic orbit I find it “messy”(best word I can use to describe it) to see anything, but I can definitely feel the energy move around, although my mind seems to skip at certain places. How long would you advise I stay just with the basics before adding other things to it? I mean I do enjoy the meditations themselves, but working directly with emotions has always been an interest of mine, and I noticing that while the inner smile is giving me a feeling of nurturing and loving, certain emotions that I’ve always had still seem to be lingering around in the background. In any case thanks for the sincere and genuine advice guys!
May 12, 2006 at 4:51 am #14003Hey Hugo, I’m near melbourne, where are you?
May 12, 2006 at 6:10 am #14005“I’ve been practicing the inner smile and microcosmic orbit for about 6 months, the healing sounds only for about 1 week.”
Hugo, my experience with the healing sounds is that they are very profound and you can go into them in a LOT of depth. Spend plenty of time with them and concentrate on the feeling. Build the relationship with your team based on communicating/listening/directing, not on control. Not so important to focus on the visuals though that is helpful.
“.. it’s a lot easier to sit my mind in my lower abdomen now.”
The more you do the sounds the more stuck energy you’ll resolve and then you’ll sit in your abdomen even better.
I suggest you also check out Trunk’s great website http://www.alchemicaltaoism.com for suggestions on how to open yourself in a balanced way.“With the microcosmic orbit I find it “messy”(best word I can use to describe it) to see anything, but I can definitely feel the energy move around,…”
Breath your way down into the abdomen with whatever you are doing and it will root and take you deeper. Again, feeling is way more important than seeing. Feeling is more body and seeing is more mental. Guess which one is closer to the earth?
“How long would you advise I stay just with the basics before adding other things to it?”
Be spontaneous, yet balanced. There’s a good Buddha story on this one.
A musician came to him one day and asked how he should regulate his meditation practice. He was told to do it the same way he would tune his instrument- not too loose and not too tight.
Trust yourself.“I noticing that while the inner smile is giving me a feeling of nurturing and loving, certain emotions that I’ve always had still seem to be lingering around in the background.”
There are many levels to this work. Some things will resolve right away, others will take more time. Do not underestimate the power of the smile. It is the pure alchemical power of your original self. Use it to tune into IT and you will be guided. Smile to anything that comes up. Most important to make a space (a cauldron) inside yourself and to embrace all that is within you in love.
“In any case thanks for the sincere and genuine advice guys!”
Your welcome.
Happy practicing,
AlexanderMay 13, 2006 at 4:30 am #14007Hi Hugo,
I will give me advice on this, the practices are presented in what is called “Formula’s” which are essentially level of practice/achievement. Each practice is recommended to be practiced daily until you feel you have totally absorbed it. In the beginning such as “Inner Smile”, then when ready move onto healing sounds etc.
If you have practiced serious “mindfullness”/”awareness” meditation most likely you will be very grounded to move through these better than other do to being possibly more grounded with the heart/mind.
There are various audio materials Mantak Chia, Michael Winn, Ron Diana, are all very good sources to work with all have unique ways of presenting these practices. Some like Michael Winn, some like Mantak Chia. I do believe the more expierence with these formulas with different expierenced teachers make the difference and you will find
what rings for you.A live environment is best; a weekly, or monthly group, but if not around audio or seasonal workshop is the next best thing. With expierence in these practices you will eventually learn how accelerate the practice faster as expierence increases.
Below are some links for quick viewing to other audio material:

http://www.taohealing.com/ron_cd.htmlIf you buy fusion and cannot afford Michaels, I recommend Ron Diana’s Fusion Cd it is affordable for anyone and he was a excellent teacher, great audio quality.
Mantak Chia’s material is good but quality is real poor, you will strain to listen.Good luck to you Snowlion..
May 14, 2006 at 9:33 am #14009Thanks for the detailed replies, I’m getting a feeling for what I’m going through and what is ahead by hearing what the rest of you guys have gone through and I very much appreciate your advice guys. Hearing about not underestimating the power of the inner smile was important to me at this time too – I find I can have a tendency to feel like moving on to the microcosmic orbit because it gives me so much energy – but neglecting the inner smile can tend to make my practice feel “cold”. I’m just getting into healing sounds – the philosophy itself is new to me, but it feels good -still getting the hang of connecting the sound to the organ though.
Thanks for the links to the other info too guys.
Mat I’m in melbourne, do you have a group in the area?
May 14, 2006 at 9:14 pm #14011Hugo, I’m at rosebud.
I don’t know of an HT group in Melbourne, but I know of a couple of qigong groups in the area, for example, Camberwell, Bawlwyn and Toorak.I’m actually begining some classes this wednesday night in Camberwell.
If you’re interested, their link is at the bottom of this post, their websites not THAT detailed, but master Toa, 14 th generation lineage holder is very good goodmy email is matblack&@yahoo.com.au

May 22, 2006 at 11:55 pm #14015Fusion is alright..
one thing I have found is that each next step you take intensifies the original microcosmic orbit meditation
things don’t really cook until second kan and li..
the reversal lights it all up….
my advice: keep it mechanical and listen to the foo foo philosophy later.. make it an exercise.. it may be just biochemical..
one way or another it’s totally relaxing, totally clears the mind and brings powerfully restful sleep plus a sense of relaxation..
that’s woth it in and of itself..
don’t expect miracles and overlook this and you might just get a miracle you never even asked for..
