Hello all,
I’ve learned quite a lot from this and the Tao Bums website. It is
great to have such a strong Taoist community online. Thanks to
everyone for all the time and effort put into these boards, they
really are extremely useful! That being said, I would like to tap into the collective wisdom of
these boards with a Taoist sexual cultivation issue I haven’t been
able to resolve yet. Any advice would be very much appreciated! The basic issue is trapped sexual energy in the prostate and anal
region. It first started happening when I began practicing Stephen
Chang’s Deer Exercise about a year and a half ago. The strong
contractions in the PC and anus seemed to absorb sexual energy but
not completely release it. I would be able to bring a lot up into
the spine and circulate it into the orbit, but a lot would remain. I
eventually stopped the Deer Exercise and moved onto using Dr. Lin’s
method of expanding air into the lower abdomen. This practice seemed
to work a bit better and more jing could be brought into the orbit.
Wasn’t perfect but better than before.Enter the aneros. This thing rocked my world for a while, and
incorporating Dr. Lin’s method it seemed to be working fairly well.
However as time has went on, more and more sexual energy seemed to get
stuck in the prostate and anal region to the point where I’m at today where
there is a constant feeling of sexual energy in the region feeling much like “an itch that can’t be scratched.” It never really goes away and is fairly distracting.Ive stopped used the aneros for the time being, and am in repair mode. Working the orbit, inner smile, healing sounds, fusion do help some, but none of these methods really completely dissipate this feeling. Even total dissipation of the energy by ejaculation helps for a day or so and then the feelings are back full swing.
I’m introducing more plant sterols into my diet ( including saw palmetto, soy, ProstateMagic, etc.) as one way to reduce the testosterone and ever-present tingling in the prostate, we’ll see how that goes.
I feel as if the water element is running the show and drowning the other elements. (I’ve had several dreams of my earth element being a water-filled swamp.) On a positive note, fusion does help a bit and I am incorporating Michael Winn’s new Wu Dang Mountain Microcosmic Orbit practice to foster more fire into my waterlogged system. Ill let you know how that goes as I get deeper into the practice.
In the meantime I am totally open to any additional suggestions, and would love to hear from others who may have had similar issues and had any advice on how to resolve this issue. Anything – energy work, physical exercises that reduce stagnation in the area, specific diet, etc. would be invaluable.
I thank you in advance for any advice you may be able to provide.
Best,
Jonah
April 6, 2006 at 12:56 pm #12477Sometimes you can exhaust the tailbone muscles and prostate with the aneros device, so give it time to repair.
For the DHT accumulation, I recommend this
http://www.greenpasture.org/cod_liver_oil.php
in a high enough dosage to give you 10,000 I.U./day of Vitamin A
For your pelvic stagnation, I would say check out this exercise
April 6, 2006 at 3:02 pm #12479In addition to Plato’s good advice..
What’s been helping me lately is to do acupressure on the arms and legs and then – immediately afterward –
get into a bridge and do lower abdomenal breathing. The acupressure opens the channels which allows the abdomen to energetically ventilate. The physical posture and breathing, obviously, also promote that. While this doesn’t address the prostate directly, it allows room so that the bound up heat that is there can process and dissapate.imo, we desperately need a HT instructor who is a doctor of chinese medicine to frequent this board, to give precise acupoint ~ acupressure advice, as well as for various other.

AlchemicalTaoism.comApril 6, 2006 at 4:24 pm #12481Trunk,
Exactly where should the acupressure be done? My friend has the same problem and you said to do acupressure. Should the acupressure be done on certain points of the kidney channel, or spleen channel, or intestine channels?
I’m guessing to get the stagnant jing moving again, one should do acupressure on the yang channels in the legs as the would open the spine more and include the kidney yin channel as that would open the tailbone and perineum. The intestine channels in the arms are also a good choice.
So, can you be more specific as to which points in the arms and legs? The abdominal breathing in the bridge looks like a good idea, but are you sure it isn’t strainful if there is lower jiao stagnation? Thanks.

I am trained in Family style Chinese Medicine which is an older/Different system than the Communist Chinese version of TCM, with all that being said will not really help you via web “Diagnosis”. I will offer suggestions:
Do you have any of this: prolapsed rectum, Urinary tract infection, Prostatitis, Spermatorrhea, impotence, urine retention, incontinence, blood in urine. Sex drive in or out of control?
These are all very serious and what you described are very serious you can go to the Nccaom @ http://dol.jkmcomm.com/acupuncture/default.asp and search where you live and get a “live” expierenced diagnosis. I personally recommend a Asian doctor that is fluent in english that has min. 10 years or of expierence.
You need a doctor to give you a pattern discrimination, they will need to do a through exam tongue, pulse, many personal questions. You could possibly have something totally unrelated that developed at the same time of this practice but probaly a fat chance.
You might want to forget about healing love or sexualy vitality practices;
just curious have you done basic foundation practices? I think some deep relaxation practices would be very beneficial for the time being. I could give you Acupuncture point formulas, herbal formulas but it would be quite careless of me and could make you worse.See a trained professional, I feel for you there are many people that encounter problems from learning without a live setting, and qualified teacher, books. if you truly want to do these take michaels training “LIVE” workshop several times and get the audio to safely at some level guide you without risk of any more pain & suffering.
The practices are safe if followed with good guidance, step by step process, it takes
several years of “realistic practice” to digest the basics, fusions, sexual practices kan & li etc…Good luck you did the right thing by asking, you shouldn’t have to suffer. This is what I would do if it was me…a licensed, expierenced, Chinese Medical Doctor…if you want to go TCM way. Seek your primary physican for the western diagnosis , technology, both systems have their benfits together you can pin it down.
April 6, 2006 at 6:28 pm #12487A Cranial Sacral Therapist can easily release the sacrum area, if it’s just a matter of releasing the congestion. It usually takes about 3-12 mins depending on how stuck it is and the experience of the therapist. They are also trained to release the pelvic diaphragm, but they don’t specialize in abdominal release. A good Osteopath would be able to totally release the pelvic area as well as any stuck vertebra.
As already mentioned it’s always best to get a personal diagnosis.
April 6, 2006 at 7:10 pm #12489Certainly anyone should go to a doctor in person if they feel that that’s appropriate.

The larger issue that I’m talking about is stagnant heat in the lower jiao (which is common for men), at a level considerably before it becomes a pronounced medical condition. I think that its reasonable for people to be interested in preventative self-care, including acupressure.
April 6, 2006 at 7:55 pm #12491I have no issue with your post? it’s not directed towards you …with a licensed professional & self care it will be a good plan. I do think he needs some Professional help considering the complexity of expiermenting from a book and possibly very new to Asian energetic arts.
If he can help himself with the general info on your site great!
April 6, 2006 at 10:00 pm #12493Thank you Plato for the cod liver oil info and the pelvic floor relaxation technique. I will try that this weekend.
Trunk, have been meaning to try out your acupressure techniques after seeing them on your website. Doing that and then going into a Matt Furey bridge sounds like fun. I’ll give it a shot. Opening, relaxing, and harmonizing the lower jiao is something I will make a priority right now.
Griffin, thanks for the heads up on an osteopath and a sacrum release. Definitely worth checking out, have to look to see if there are any locally.
snowlion, thank you for your concern, I appreciate your suggestions as well. Thankfully I do not have any of those conditions you listed. I go to a reputable acupuncturist a few times a year and don’t have any serious imbalances. I have ten years of chi kung practice behind me including studying directly and intensively with a high-level teacher for over four along with numerous other live transmissions and workshops over the years. Just reaching out to the online community for the first time for more feedback.
Well, that’s all for now. Thanks a million for all the help guys, I really appreciate it!
Best,
Jonah
May 9, 2006 at 2:56 pm #12495Hi Jonah,
I would like to offer my experience and suggestions to you in a different vein.
While the suggstions offered so far look helpful, I believe, since they are all “doing” oriented that they will probably not get to the root of the situation. (Pun not intended, but enjoyed)
All too often we tend to want to do something about what is going on instead of allowing it the space it needs to express and complete itself. While any of the suggestions given so far might under certain circumstances give some relief they are more likely to be superficial because they are largely external. I say this because my experience with healing myself of various things along the way and working with many others has shown me that when one goes with what is going on it tends to resolve itself more organically and truly. That is not to say that one shouldn’t get help or do practices. It’s HOW one does them that matters.
Example from my own experience relevant to your question:
About ten years ago I suddenly found myself suffering from prostate pain and swelling. It was very uncomfortable and scary. Instinctively I jumped into the sensations in my body and allowed myself to feel everything that was going on inside me, emotionally and psychologically. As I would feel things I would allow myself to express the sound (and movement) that went along with the feelings. This turned out to be VERY important! It was a very emotional time and most of what I expressed was generic body pain, non-descript – primal pain releasing. There was a lot of crying, frustration and fear. I did not have a lot of understanding about what the specific issues my body was releasing were. Over time, I went through many levels of this. When it was finished, which took months, on and off, it was gone and has never returned.
The glitch for most of us in this approach is that we tend to be afraid of our feelings, our subconsciousness, which is the feminine(surprise!) and want to avoid it. (I will stick my neck out and say this as well: It’s almost the same with women. They’re scared of their feelings too.)
I have had a TON of personal experiences like this one, the most recent having happened last week with a hip thing I went through that resolved itself spontaneously.
The point is: the body speaks. It knows what is going on with it and it wants us to listen, not “persuade.” (You can have a “goaless goal,” -healing.) I have found that our job is to allow, mostly. Spontaneous, interactive behavior rather than artificially applied techniques based on manipulation of the organism work better.
Where can this spontaneity come from? We have to sit still and be with ourselves until it reveals itself.
The vast majority of our problems are quite deeply psychological/subconscious and need us to go to depth with them in order for the energies to be resolved. I have found the alchemical meditations to be an extraordinary aid in this regard, but not if they are done to control what is happening. They need to be done more and more openly, trustingly and surrenderingly as one goes along. It is the letting go/accepting that counts! That’s what brings us to the next level of wholeness.
Blessings in the healing light and love,
Alexander -
