It kind of bugs me that our culture regards solstices/equinoxes as marking the beginning/end of the season instead of being in the midst of them.

The way we have it set up, summer the season is in a total yin phase of declining fire. It makes much more sense to me that the summer solstice, for instance, being the peak and longest day of the year, also be at the peak of the most yang season. Vice versa for winter.

Relatedly, it also bugs me that North is on top of the compass instead of bottom. (Even the Wiccans Wheel of the Year is affected by this, where North is on the top. Regardless of my Taoist bias, it just makes more sense conceptually and physically to have summer fire above/on top.)

    Anyways, just a funky rant.

This is why many of the Earth-centered religions
celebrate the Cross Quarters, the days half-way
between the Solstices and Equinoxes . . . they are
sort of the “true” beginning to the season.

Groundhog Day, today, is effectively one of them.

    Happy Spring.

Haha yep, in fact I had a little ceremony today in honor of it being Imbolc, or Groundhog Day as you say (interesting how many holidays we celebrate have pagan origins). And yes, this is the true ‘beginning’ of Spring, I just wish that were more accepted. So yes, Happy Spring!
