Winn, I am wondering if you studied with Dr. Tzu-Kuo Shih and if you might recommend his training? He seems to be one of the best qigong masters in Connecticut?

June 2, 2005 at 4:39 pm #5912TK lived in my NY apt. for two years in the early 80’s. He was essentially homeless at the time, I took him in and taught him english. Great guy, very talented, good teacher. His system is a bit pricey these days, but if you have the dough, you will undoubtedly find it empowering. HIs work is transmission centered, i..e getting continuous transmissioin via him. If you are not comfortable with that, best to try someone else. CT is also close to Dao Mtn, which is very reasonably priced.

June 2, 2005 at 10:49 pm #5914Perhaps it would be of benefit to a good many people to know what transmission means, to really and truly know its process, its intention and the relationship between sender and receiver. It is this process I believe that gets not too few “white” westerners confused – including me. Most westerners are not familiar with the concept of having information enter our center thru ways other than sight or hearing. And this confusion I believe is what helps some teachers take advantage of their students. I am not speaking for all westerners of course, but I do believe there are a good number who feel that when they get messages they are from a “higher power” and relate that knowledge to “god”. And maybe this is what some eastern teachers found out by mistake but are also maybe just a tad reluctant to inform the truth – because having done so would then take away that place of idolism that they maybe unintentionally but nevertheless the teacher has created. Now the westerner begins to be a little confused – is what they feel “god”, “teacher” or “mind”. Now that is tricky. And I haven’t seen too many “masters of the art” readily give teachings to clarify that. One should always remember that just as in research and evaluation where statistics can mean whatever the gatherer of those statistics wants them to mean (by placing boundaries and limitations on those statistics gathered), so too can the knowledge that the “teacher” transmits. The knowledge that is transmitted is really only as good as the boundaries and limits/non limits, information that the sender creates/transmits and the receiver “clearly” receives/does not receive. I have only recently somewhat realized the extent that I have been transmitted to and you know what …. why the hell didn’t someone just say something! But as I said before, saying something would have just made things clear. Clarity brings truth, truth brings balance, balance takes away fear ….taking away fear brings empowerment, empowerment of the self. I believe there is a fine line with transmission and some teachers do not hold that responsibility close to their hearts but rather closer to their money pocket. I myself have no problem with transmission when it is given with a clear warm heart. I am actually fond of having another with me, if that other’s intention is true. And so I guess it is as you say Michael, if one is comfortable with transmission, but a person should also be aware that if you are not comfortable with transmission from one soul does not mean that you will necesarily be uncomfortable with transmission from another. Sometimes the integrity of the sender and receiver need to be in similar alignment and if not then that is when the sender needs to communicate that to the receiver in words. To clarify what is honestly happening in his transmissions and to clearly state what he expects in return of that transmission. Face to face with the receiver. Enough wishy washy guess this, maybe not that games. For that is exactly what will transcend if clarity is not obtained in intention and expectations. And you don’t want to go there. No one should have to go there.
June 5, 2005 at 2:08 am #5916I assumed direct transmission means they do not mess with videos and books as much as eye to eye, in the moment teaching. Although this teacher does have a book too.
So, how does this method of teaching contrast with that experience with Michael, for example?
I am still a bit unclear about this concept.
June 5, 2005 at 12:04 pm #5918Are you sincerely ignorant of what direct transmission is? I find that hard to believe seeing as your presence on this forum. However and even if your question is to prod for info and perhaps intended for another answer perhaps it would be just as justifiable to tell you.
As one progresses on the path, depending on which one you take of course, but specifically in the energetic practices of qigong, taiji, yoga – I would imagine and I can only say imagine as I have only been subjected to such in taiji/qigong and when you get right down to the bare bones such energetic persuasions are used in religions and every day lives. However as a person practices the qigong exercises, they become stronger, as one practices they also develop not only energetically but physically, emotionally and spiritually. In this process abilities that are latent in all of us rise up. When one becomes of more understanding and reaches what we call a true “sifu”, “master” level it is possible to give to others what you have learned thru touch sometimes but even thru intention. If the master so chooses and you and the master are of same intent the student may receive information not thru books/videos and not via phone but thru open heart. Information pours into you thru channels you cannot see and that are difficult to explain in physical terms. One however must also learn that not all “messages” heard are “good” messages and they may not always be from your teacher. In learning ways of energy one must also train to discern the truth from manipulations that others may be forging onto you. If you are comfortable with having “messages” sent to you thru these channels by another then it will be fine. If not and sometimes we really do not know we do not like it till someone tries and we get angry or we close our hearts. Those are cues that you and the master are not in alignment and another way of knowledge is meant for you not thru that particular transmission. Someone had posted here about the Kundalini site and I have found that most helpful. Especially the serpent mistress. I do not care for her name at all, sounds a little too pagan for my liking, a little too hang by the neck in Salem times and I think her name does her injustice because having read her site … she describes most clearly what all is. A very true connection. Or at least as close to it as can be at this time. Qigong exercises, taiji, yoga can all help us to be physically healthier and to help us align easier but the essence of it all is the same no matter whether you exercise or not, no matter what religion, no matter what age or sex. These things I have come to believe in my studies. I have come to believe that many of the symbols, rituals, exercises are no longer necessary for our evolution and actually tie us to times gone by which are no longer required. A lot of those processes are binding and as creations of the creator it is not needed. But what the heck, it sells a lot of books/videos and makes people lots of money and they do help people along the way. So they are truly not without benefit in the grand scheme of things. And we do all need to have some kind of focus. But anyways, on transmission – one must discern those little voices in your head — they could be messages of tansmission, they could be your own mind/ego, or they could be another person/form trying to get you to give them what they want. Sometimes that is energy. Sometimes that is even your whole life force. And I do not mean to scare you but truly find out who/what you are connecting with before you give it a go. Learn to listen to your heart — seek truth. Ask for truth and guidance with grace, compassion, wisdom, clarity and gentleness and you will get the answers you require at this time in your journey. Read the Kundalini sites. They have good information.
I could write a book on my experiences:
I will tell you just a few and believe me I am not crazy. Far from it, although perhaps a little off center at times. The following are what can occur if you open your heart to higher learning and to help from others of higher learner. But also to be aware that as a teacher comes into your life as you progress you may surpass that teacher and it will then be time to open your heart to other learnings while keeping what was given to you. Also being aware though that even transmissions/messages can be a little distorted and to keep your mind/heart open to that. And never try to change things in abrupt ways for they will come back to slap you one in the face. Big time. You can gently coax the wheel of time with grace and gentlenesss but the wheel was created with a grand theme of the creator and was not meant to be turned by any other than the creator. If one succeeds in turning or changing anything too much, repurcussions will happen, either to you or your generation of past/future. Tweaking is okay. Blatantly ignoring or blatantly misusing power will definately come back to haunt you. Believe me.
Say you go to a psychic. The psychic says you are going to win the lottery in the very near future. So great, you go and charge your VISA bills up and quit your job and plan for fantastic travel. Life of leisure. Well, you never win the lottery. Damn psychic was a fake. AHHH, but not so for she read your future before you decided to change it with the VISA and quitting your job. So in seeking out advice from psychics it is a very tricky process. To take what is given you and knowing that maybe only 80% of it is true and then to know that this reading was given to you at this time. This precise minute. Anything that you do afterwards that you may not have done before you heard the reading MAY, and I say may because I mean this is not always the case because the reading may have also been part of the “plan”. But in your thought and physical life you have just changed the reading. sometimes this is meant to be a lesson to you, sometimes it is pure training of control of yourself. A process. So be open to all of this. Readings are okay but always to be takenw ith a grain of salt.Anyways,…. things that can happen…
I was at my master’s studio, he told me I could sell all of the things in his back studio and I could keep the money to help me out. So I had a “sale” in his studio. People came and left. And then this lady come in and as soon as I saw her I wanted to go hug her. She smiled and then went to my friend (who I had JUST phoned and told to come and see if there was anything she could use at this “sale”). This lady, and I willcall her a healer from now on went to my friend and spoke with her. The healer called me over to the both of them and told me to listen for it would be part of my training. To show me the cloudiness in my friends eyes, to show me the mole marks on her neck and face, to show me the nostril positioning of the nose. To show me that my friend had lupus, in the early stages. And the healer gave my friend a herbal recipe for this lupus that would keep it in check but that she would have to take it every day.
And so you see we have a recipe to help people with lupus but do you think anyone wants it. They would rather take western medicine. Oh well. The healer then told me of my clear eyes, of the purity. Told me of the wide nostrils – meaning compassion.
And then the healer turned to me and said “child, you are without a home – you have just left your husband or he has left you. I had just left my husband. And then she said to me can you go back to him. I started to cry and lifted my head up and looked to the ceiling and started to will myself away. She pleaded for me not to do so and wave her hands and asked me not to do that. She then turned me round 3 times with chantings and released me from my vows to my husband. She told me that perhaps I should come to a place where I could continue my lessons and in this place she gave me the recipe that would be required. It had 7 holy waters, a bird sancutary, horsehair, wooden floors and it would be a place where I could help children. And she told me where this place was and she told me that if I made enough money from this “sale” to take a bus there then that is what was to be. I told her could not leave my son – she turned to me and bound him to me. This would have been the easiest way for me to have my lessons, but my spirit could not leave my family nor what I had just vowed to help with, to help a friend. And so I never did leave to that place, I stayed where I was but I ended up moving to a house that was inadvertently in the midst of 7 churches and was near schools with children and the house had hardwood floors and I took up a martial art which used horsehair in the making of their weapons. So you see there was a recipe for me to do what was required. But there are always more than one way for that recipe. Looking back …. this way I ended up taking has been so difficult. So hard …. but I could not do it any other way. I had to follow my “I am”. And in all things in everyone’s journeys there are always these built in recipes that allow for the human to take care of their “I am”. It is justnot always so easy.
So anyways, this happened because I opened my heart and when one does that people will come into your life to guide you. However it is your job to learn which ones come with truth and which ones come to entice you to steal your energy (and there are vampires out there! Energy vampires and they live off of people who have weak “I am’s”). So do the processes that give you a strong “I am” with grace, gentleness, compassion, love, understanding, wisdom and clarity. See also thta sometimes people have connected to them “things” of energy that delude the persons own truths and until these “things” can be released back to where they come from, back to the light they can truly make quite the mess of people’s lives. And they love that. Not that all is that way. But when one looks at people just be more understanding that maybe they are dealing with a little more than they themselves know and they themselves can handle and to be truly understanding of that and nonjudgemental with that. Always keeping strong in who and what you are though.
More stories,….I could tell you years worth. And each “story” given credence to the one before.
In this transmission things, well, you know it is best to find a master who helps you connect yourself. A master who assists but one who does not take your power from you but rather helps you build on it. You see the way some of this transmission works as in Falun Gong for instance. The “master” (gad, I hate to call him that) transmits a symbol into your energetic field and that symbol connects you to his source and to him. Now the way I know it, He gets the benefit of your energy as does “his” “master”. He becomes quite powerful. I mean think of it, even the Queen, she is a powerful person, but cannot do martial arts, nor practices qigong, etc. (that we know of anyways, ha, ha). She is powerful because the people “under” her give her that power. As does some master/student relationships. Now some people are okay with that process – my spirit is not. I am not. Each of us as individuals has the ability to connect to the higher source individually with sometimes just a little assistance, sometimes some guidance. This is the true way. And we can be transmitted such helpful energy and knowledge by true masters whose job it is to do just that. With no intention of $ in return with no intention of using your energy for power, for their own physical energy (keeping their health, power, etc.) nor for their own personal goals. What these masters do is just connect you to your own creator’s source and you learn from there. You do not have to pay $, you do not have to give your first born, you do not have to give your life of family up. It is not necessary. In fact when the true way is found abundance of all things will come to each and every one of us. Abundance in material, spiritual, emotional, phsycial. We are creators of our own world. And when we truly experience this – that my dear friend is when the true learning begins. For each of us though, we have so many htings to overcome, so many wrong teachings, so many illusions. Do you have the courage to face those. And before we break thru each of those illusions, the fear becomes intense, but if we stand within our truth we can touch those fears, face them head on and as we do, that fear give us a gentle kiss on our cheek, like a butterfly’s kiss, so light and the illusion is broken. Just so simple. But your mind will fight you on this. Boy does it do a good job sometimes. But as my master told me … above all else he respected my perseverance. And that is what it takes. Perseverance and a love of self. Love of self will bring love of others. But only after you have love of self. And that can take quite a bit of work. RIGHT! Isn’t that what it all boils down to. So simple. But if finding out how to love yourself takes reciting 7 prayers every day while standing on one foot at the top of a mountain in Tibet then that is what it takes. That is the trick. What works for one will not always work for the other and that is what our job is …. finding our what works and tossing the rest. With truth, with grace, gentleness, love, compassion, wisdom and clarity.
Just be sure of your heart and comfortable with who you join in transmission that is all.
Love
RainbowbearJune 6, 2005 at 11:56 am #5920Thanks for sharing your powerful personal experiences, Rainbowbear.
Your reasons are exactly the reasons I am opposed to the subconscious DIS-empowerment that comes from calling anyone else your Master. We all share a common master, and it is our original, true, immortal self, inner heart, divine self, Tao, Buddha, God Self, Source, whatever name you want to call it.
Its not much different than the relation every child must come to with its parents: you need help and support in growing up, but the sooner you take responsiblity for yourself the better. Wise parents cultivate that in their children, and don’t imagine that they are entitled to “own” the lives of their children.
To further clarify my comments about TK, last I heard (probably five years ago) there was a stiff fee attached to T.K. acting as continuous transmission station to his students: 50% of everything the students earned from their qi healing work.
This sounded like an idea of one of his business minded students, as it was not characteristic of the TK that lived with me. But if he bought into it. well,
caveat emptor (buyer beware).michael
June 6, 2005 at 11:15 pm #5922I really appreciate these thoughts on ‘the master’.
