There is a certain feeling of stagnation I’m feeling from the board. Like everything has been discussed before.
Here’s an idea. What about TAG. I’m imagining we take turns, to give out a practice, those who play have to do it for say 3 days, give there feedback here. Then another person announces TAG I’m it, and gives a new practice idea.
So TAG I’M it. Count to a 100 breaths. I usually count the in and out separately, thus it would only be 50 full breaths. Do it each day Wednesday through Friday.
Tell me what you think. If you’re in or out. If you’re in tell me when, how long it took, and if you think the practice has any merit. I don’t mean the counting to be formal meditation(though it can be), I do it while I drive.
What I hope to happen is that people will respond, and in 3 days other people will be IT, with new ideas to try.
A new tradition here? you decidee

November 17, 2004 at 12:14 am #1953why dont ya start tellin us how much beer it took ya to grow that kinda belly???
November 17, 2004 at 12:33 am #1955any kind of breath? i mean can we do it in conjuction with some nei gong of our choosing?
November 17, 2004 at 10:14 am #1957Your choice. I kinda like the idea of timing the count though. For example, this morning driving to work, it took me 10 minutes to count to 100. So 50 breaths in 10 minutes, a 12 second breath cycle.
Thats so so, but I’d like to see it take much longer, say 15 or 20 minutes, without forcing. In Aikido we’d do a formal breathing exercise where it was about 55 seconds a cycle. I always found it difficult and artifically forced. I probably do have a 20 to 30 second breath cycle when I’m deeper into meditation.
You sea creatures should be able to do even better 🙂

November 17, 2004 at 10:22 am #1959Dear Mr. Fuk,
Actually I’m slimming down nicely. Doing an easy sets of pushup and squats when I wake up, when I get home from work, and before bed. Just easy sets and I find squatting with my feet flat feels better then ‘furey’ variety. I’m also doing isometrics against the driving wheel in the car.
It was never really a beer belly, those of us who drink the quality stuff tend to drink less. Its more a life tension belly, and that should end soon. In two months I’ll be leaving the rat race to the rats. I’ll be going into winter cocoon and come out having the time and freedom to find something I’ll love to do.
Peace

November 17, 2004 at 5:24 pm #1961The board has been split up since the crash and RJ and the Bodri gang have set up shop at:
http://www.seanomlor.com/taobums/
I’m planning on posting at both places and I’m hoping that both will evolve to have distinctive personalities.

November 18, 2004 at 9:31 am #1967I like the look and format of this board better and maybe, someday, it can have female participation too with the departure of our favorite lounge lizard!

November 18, 2004 at 10:14 am #1969To any and all of our sister practitioners who may be playing wall flower, reading but not writing. Say hello, tell us about your practice, post a question.
We don’t bite and are always in need of the the feminine perspective.

Michael
P.S. Yoda, breath 50 times w/ counting, post how long it took, then write a new short practice Friday.
November 18, 2004 at 11:17 am #1971Did gods of this forum/site bless the shism or was it a revolution…

November 18, 2004 at 10:41 pm #1975ok, so i combined the breath counting with the 9-5 breathing. at first it was very difficult because you have to count sips as well as the entire breath and do the visualizations. but as i moved thru it my concentration got even better than usual. then it shifted to where i only had to count every second breath, and then every fourth breath at the end of each cycle so i was counting 40, 44, 48, 52, etc., until i reached 100. the breaths became longer and deeper. i still did the sips prety much the same but there were long pauses after the exhales and inhales. so it was a pause with the cauldron full, pause with the cayuldron empty. the practice was much deeper than normal. then i did the macrocosmic orbit intersecting and crossing into a fifure 8 in the solar plexus cauldron and it proceeded most naturally and spontaneously. what ended up happening was 3 orbits moving simultaneously–a microcosmic, mesocosmic and macrocosmic–one in minime in the cauldron, one in physical me and one in macrome (the golden child who appeared as a giant with his feet on the earths core and his head inthe stars. one interesting thing is that instead of drawing yin fromt eh earth and yang from heaven, it reversed so that i was drawing fire from the earths core and icy black yin from space. not at all ironic when you consider the nature of true yin and true yang, but i finally felt the princple that the yin within yang goes on and on and on: there’s yang within the yin with in yang, and yang within the yin within the yang within the yin, and so on and so on and so on. pretty cool shit.
