Hi everyone,
Although I’m writing to Michael, anyone may feel free to comment, or add to this post.
Michael Winn you mentioned the Overself or Oversoul. In the past, beginning with the works of Lobsang Rampa, then to the works of Paul Brunton, they both mentioned the Overself. I have come to the conclusion that the Overself is our higher self, or soul which is what we are trying to discover, or become aware of. The awareness of the Overself, is essentially a discovery of your own self, your inner true being.
Now in relation to the practices of the Tao. Is Tao through inner alchemy, a gradual step in the discovery of the self? Where I get confused is in the advanced practices of Tao, when we create a new immortal spirit being that transcends death, how does this relate to the Overself? Why does an immortal spirit need to be manifested or created to return to the Tao, when in essence we are of a higher-self, which is thus in essence part of the Tao?
This is only based on knowledge, I would like people who have had experiences to comment on the Overself, and higher experiences of the Tao.
Thanks again everyone for your time
Ted =)March 13, 2006 at 10:32 pm #11441An interesting time to ask that question. Look at the discussion (rounds 1, 2, and 3)going on between bagua, me (Fajin), and Michael. Michael will soon explain why we are incomplete and more about immortality. It is our ego that obstructs us from the higher self, our true nature. We don’t create a new immortal spirit, if you are new read some of Michael’s articles to get a brief background on what Daoist inner alchemy is about. All spirits are immortal that is why they are referred to as “vital organ gods.”
