Much of qi gong is designed to massage tissues, organs, marrow, that aren’t as effectively gotten to by convential western exercise. Also, some of the worst dangers of incorrectly applied qi gong has to do with stagnation issues.
I wonder if anyone has explored “whole body vibration” (wbv) platforms in conjunction with qi gong exercises? (as a supplement to, not a replacement for, regular practice) Apparently, they vibrate every organ, tissue, layer. WBV’s are fairly new in the physical therapy, fitness, professional sports markets, were originally researched by Russian and US space programs for maintaining astronauts’ bone density.

January 4, 2008 at 1:35 am #26823The soloflex product ( http://www.soloflex.com/wbv/ ) is the cheapest I’ve seen around (ebay?), and allows standing as well as lying front/back on. Think standing lower tan tien breathing while your insides are vibrating, or lying down doing tao yin while vibrating. Wider range of etc explorations possible.

moving the body to move the chi but humming the body to move the chingyou seem sure that stagnation issues are malevolent and not surfacing issues. this in relation to low temperature celebacy.
however you did once write on the rolling balls:
1.
rugby balls (american football ball)comparison to chi roller:
-softer than the chi massage roller (wooden pole did seem harsh)
-larger contact area than the chi massage roller (thus in one roll/position one does not hinge only on vertabrae, but whole lateral line, which seems more appropriate as the whole area (back front and middle tissue) is being worked)comparison to large small balls:
-hybrid: combines benefits of small and large balls, as in one plane its diameter is of small ball range, other plane the curve line is from large ballposibble use to increase comfort control:
-using it laying on soft matress with optional cushion head support)
-using it in semi deflated form
-with cushions to stop, control the movement inside a ‘safe’ range of movement, it can be ok as a negative lower back stretch2.
large joga ballsgood for working space
(alternative is a chair with back support removed)
but offers little heat resistance
thus in prolonged seating a cooling effect
which is not necessarily healthysolution is use of e.g. three layers of towel rugs to cover the top side of the ball
this creates new problem of the balls increased inclination of ball to roll away from designated space when standing up
but that is a healthy problem -
