Eyes are the most yang organ in the body – all the organs use them to obtain information and interact with the outer world.
Lots of people strain their eyes from too much computer use. Here are my suggestions for good eye health:
1. buy “blue shield” to put over all screens, monitors, etc. on amazon, few bucks each.
2. reverse the color, so black background, with white letters. Reduces glare and stress on eyes immensely. I cannot even read a normal screen.
3. use remote key board, never put your hands on a laptop keyboard except for very short periods. You pick up too much hard drive vibration.
4. good ergonomic chair, frequent eye breaks, eye exercises. Deep Earth Pulsing Qigong will help group false fire from computer. (Learn it from Fundamentals 3&4 homestudy).
5. good eye diet. Super green foods (spirulina), Jarrow Vision Optimizer supplement, macuguard, others.
6. sun-gazing every day, twice a day, min. 5 minutes each time. start with eyes shut, gradually move to open eyes, with soft focus.
7. massage bladder-1 point on inside of eyes and bladder/stomach points around the eye to help release trapped heat/yang.
8. learn to use PERIPHERAL vision more than central TUNNEL vision. Imagine looking from behind back of your head, with soft eye focus, not staring hard at objects/screen.
December 14, 2017 at 11:24 am #51504My understanding is that evolutionarily the “mind” is part of vision. Vision gave this species massive advantages in nature, and to further increase that advantage the “mind” evolved in order to process vision. So instead of just seeing and responding to Sabre-Tooth Tigers the “mind” can consider the different options for fighting it, the mind can also remember past experiences with Tigers, and so on.
What is this “mind” that everyone talks about ? It seems it is a processing facility that evolved to bring intelligence to vision. Now it has become the central HQ of an ordinary human self. It is very overdeveloped and unbalanced compared to the rest of the human being therefore causing the conflict violence and insanity of human life.
If you watch people move often you are watching the movement of their “minds”. Pushing hurrying, the body just becomes a vehicle that the mind can abuse.
So when we talk of vision-strain it is often caused by mind-strain.
Frequently when I am riding my bike I notice that I am driving my legs from my eyes, or from my mind. It is as if my “mind” is riding the bike, pushing pushing pushing. But I say to myself, “let the body ride the bike”, and just drop the “mind”. Even better is let Consciousness drive the body, if you can do that.
Peripheral vision, yes … basically let the eyes just do the eye business. And let the hands do the hand business and so on.
The “mind” has a sense of self but only very slight and sub-conscious. The answer to the question “how can you stop the mind” is actually to become present in the “mind” so that it does not think without you. How? Feel the “one” who is thinking behind that voice you hear everyday. Somewhere in the forehead. Feel the “speaker” and merge with it, so that you sit in that seat. If not the “speaker” will continue talking forever.
Back on Vision, there is an old video from the American Vision Institute – See Clearly Method, that is very good. Can find it on a torrent somewhere. This Institute was forced into bankruptcy through the courts by a group of Opthalmists. Such is this world.
Our ancestors must have been pretty damn strong, and even a little crazy to have gone up against the beasts of the Earth. Maybe we can forgive ourselves for still being a bit crazy.
December 15, 2017 at 6:51 am #51508thanks Michael for the “8 Steps to Heal Eye Strain from Excess Computer use”. Regarding number 7, sometimes I have needed something a bit more – and the exercise shown has helped. Needs to be done carefully and with awareness of hands held behind head and at Ming Men balancing fire in head with water at kidneys or lower. Even without the twist, holding the hands at back of head and at waist can balance energies. Changing hands may reveal one side is more tight etc. (from a set of exercise number 7, Yi Jin Jing )
